Travel throughout Alabama and the Florida Panhandle to project/job sites About Boyd Engineering LLC Boyd Engineering LLC is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team in Enterprise, Alabama. We specialize in civil engineering and site development services, with a focus on residential subdivision projects and sitework . This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys combining technical design work with real-world construction and field operations. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across the project lifecycle—from initial concepts and estimating through permitting, construction, and project closeout. Position Summary The Civil Engineer will provide technical expertise in the planning, design, permitting, and execution of civil sitework and land development projects in a design-build environment. The position will work closely with project managers, estimators, field personnel, clients, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies to develop efficient, constructible, and cost-effective solutions for grading, utilities, drainage, stormwater management, and overall site development. The position will be based in Enterprise, Alabama , with travel to project sites throughout Alabama and the Florida Panhandle . Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering & Design Prepare conceptual and detailed civil engineering designs for residential subdivisions and other land development projects. Develop grading, erosion control, utility, drainage, and roadway plans. Produce design drawings, exhibits, technical reports, and engineering documentation. Perform engineering calculations including earthwork quantities, drainage capacity, pipe sizing, and stormwater detention/retention modeling. Review geotechnical reports and incorporate recommendations into design solutions. Ensure designs comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations, codes, and industry standards. Manage the entitlement process from initial concept through approved plat. Pre-Construction Support Assist estimators with quantity takeoffs, constructability reviews, and bid preparation. Develop value-engineering alternatives to improve project cost, efficiency, and constructibility. Prepare feasibility studies, conceptual designs, and preliminary grading plans for new projects. Participate in client meetings to establish project goals, scope, and technical requirements. Permitting & Regulatory Coordination Prepare and submit grading, stormwater, erosion control, utility, and other required permit applications. Coordinate with municipalities, regulatory agencies, consultants, engineers, and reviewers to address comments and obtain approvals. Maintain accurate documentation to ensure compliance with stormwater, environmental, and land development regulations. Construction Support Work closely with project managers and field personnel to ensure design intent is properly executed. Provide design clarifications, layout information, and technical support during construction. Review shop drawings, RFIs, and submittals. Perform job-site visits throughout Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Verify grades and utility alignments and help troubleshoot field conditions and construction issues. Quality Assurance & Documentation Maintain accurate engineering records, calculations, drawings, and revisions. Assist with as-built drawings, certifications, and project closeout packages. Ensure all engineering deliverables meet company quality standards and professional engineering expectations. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Experience in civil site design, land development, or sitework is preferred. Experience with residential subdivision design and development is strongly preferred . Strong understanding of grading, drainage, stormwater management, utility design, and construction sequencing. Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, plans, and survey data. Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Willingness and ability to travel to project sites throughout Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. Preferred Qualifications Professional Engineer ( PE ) license preferred. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D preferred, including grading, alignments, surfaces, and pipe networks. Experience working in a design-build, sitework, or heavy civil construction environment. Experience with residential subdivision development. Experience with stormwater modeling software, Trimble Business Center, or similar engineering software. Knowledge of Alabama and/or Florida permitting processes and land development regulations. Field experience supporting construction operations. Experience coordinating with municipalities, permitting agencies, consultants, contractors, and clients.
