Engineering Analysis:
Performs conventional and routine engineering analyses assignments associated with technical planning activities; data collection; modeling and data analyses; analyses of site location and/or conditions; risk estimation and analyses; or analyses of instrumentation data.Design:

Participates in civil engineering facility examinations, reviews, and/or inspections which include conducting condition assessments and construction and transfer inspections; identifying deficiencies relative to design criteria, applicable codes and standards, or state or Federal statutes or regulations; calculating preliminary estimates for repairs; documenting results; identifying future needs for the asset investment such as extraordinary maintenance and rehabilitation; and project management planning. Qualifications All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-09/07/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. All candidates must also meet Time-in-Grade requirements. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. OR Combination of education and experience- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

To qualify for the GS-09, your resume must reflect one year of professional experience performing all of the following duties: Conducting engineering analyses in the areas of construction management, geotechnical, highway, hydraulics, hydrologic, or structural engineering; Creating and/or completing engineering designs; Drafting technical documentation of engineering assignments; Performing project management to include contract administration, compliance and/or database operation OR You could otherwise qualify on the basis of Education having successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education This position has a mandatory education requirement. Transcripts must include the name of the college or university and date the degree was conferred. Non-submission will result in being rated not-qualified for the position.
