Senior Project Engineer Years of experience: 4 - 8 yrs, structural eng Our ideal candidate: You have a professional engineer's license in the State of California, a strong interest in high-performance seismic and sustainable design, and a knack for "whole-project" seeing. You have demonstrable engineering expertise evidenced by: a mastery of statics and a solid understanding of the dynamic behavior of structures, including nonlinear behavior; an ability to solve engineering problems independently, with a system of QA/QC to catch errors in a timely manner; an ability to effectively communicate engineering design and understanding through the use of thoughtfully laid out details and calculations, and well-written technical reports. a proven ability to take independent, responsible charge of increasing proportions of a project; a familiarity with the different project phases with an awareness of the variable expectations at each phase; an awareness of project budgets and the ability to tailor work to meet them; depending on depth of experience, a facility with AutoCAD, Revit, and a variety of engineering analysis programs, including RAM Structural System, RAM Concept, and RISA; and a good understanding of current standards of practice, including
ASCE 7, ASCE
41, CBC, ACI, AISC, and NDS. A master's degree in structural engineering in the State of California is preferred.
Responsibilities:
A senior project engineer (SPE) contributes to the success of our firm primarily as a fairly independent producer, over time increasing their scope to managing projects and a project team. The SPE ensures effective, efficient project delivery using strong critical thinking, excellent internal and external communication skills, and sound engineering judgment, while holding an awareness of the overall arc and budget of each project, as well as their implications for project delivery. The SPE is expected to deliver small projects independently and take an active role in delivering larger, more complex projects from conceptual design through construction administration. Depending on experience and position, responsibilities include: creating and/or revising calculations, drawings, and specifications; planning and performing all necessary tasks on smaller projects and coordinating with other project engineers and the project manager on larger projects; managing personal time and effort in completing assigned tasks; and coordinating the tasks required to complete project assignments in a timely fashion and within budget. The SPE also actively contributes to and helps shape the health and effectiveness of project teams, and becomes a technical resource to the overall office.
Compensation:
The starting salary range for this position is $95,000 to $115,000, before any eligible bonuses. Salaries are based on factors such as geographic location, experience, expertise, education and skills.
