Stress EngineerJob Description The role involves detailed component design and FEA-based stress analysis. You will engage in conceptual sketches, working closely with the drafting team, and apply concepts such as design to specification, design for manufacturing, inspection, and cost. The stress analysis focuses heavily on structural dynamics, fatigue, and nonlinear solutions, with FEA tasks ranging from geometry creation to final analysis reports. Collaboration with a diverse cross-functional team is essential, designing and analyzing metallic parts produced through various manufacturing methods. This position covers the full product life cycle, from new development to failure analysis, and often requires programming custom design and task automation tools. Responsibilities + Create conceptual sketches and designs for components. + Conduct FEA-based stress analysis with a focus on structural dynamics, fatigue, and nonlinear solutions. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project engineers, drafters, and manufacturing engineers. + Involve in the entire product life cycle, including new product development and legacy support. + Program custom design and task automation tools using Excel (VBA), MATLAB, Python, and applicable calculation software APIs. + Perform internal flow and external insulation calculations using in-house tools. + Travel less than 15% for software training, customer design reviews, and onsite support. Essential Skills + BS Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Astronautical, or similar engineering field (MS Degree preferred). + 5+ years of experience in an engineering design environment. + 6+ years of experience with finite element analysis stress software (HyperWorks, Femap/NASTRAN, or ANSYS Mechanical). + 4+ years of experience with HyperWorks. + Expertise in data analysis and reduction. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with linear and nonlinear static FEA solutions, modal, harmonic response, and random response. + Experience with topology optimization and simulation of metal forming methods. + Experience designing for metallic additive manufacturing and with SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar drafting software. + Familiarity with materials such as Stainless Steel, Titanium, Inconel, and other superalloys. + Experience applying GD&T per ASME Y14.5
2018 (and/or 2009) to complex components and assemblies. + Experience in MRB review and disposition of nonconforming hardware. Work Environment The position operates on a Monday to Friday schedule, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, onsite five days a week. The role requires working closely with a team of design engineers.
