• John Wayne Airport Position Summary Staybridge Suites Irvine is seeking an experienced, hands-on Chief Engineer to lead the hotel's Maintenance department.

This is a leadership position and a member of the hotel's executive team. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the physical condition, safety, preventive maintenance, and regulatory readiness of the hotel—identifying and addressing needs before they become operational problems. The successful candidate must be able to build, train, and lead a maintenance team that can work independently while consistently meeting hotel, company, and brand standards. Key Responsibilities Lead, train, coach, and hold the Maintenance team accountable for performance and completion of assigned responsibilities. Develop team members so they can troubleshoot and complete routine maintenance independently. Manage daily engineering operations, assign work, establish priorities, and verify completion. Maintain and enforce preventive maintenance programs and required checklists for guest rooms, public areas, mechanical equipment, life-safety systems, and hotel facilities. Conduct routine property inspections and proactively identify repairs, safety concerns, equipment deterioration, and capital needs. Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment histories, inspections, warranties, manuals, and service documentation. Track contracted services, required inspections, permits, licenses, certifications, and renewal dates and ensure they are completed before expiration or due dates. Coordinate and monitor outside vendors, verify work performed, and maintain service records. Maintain readiness for brand inspections, company audits, safety inspections, and regulatory requirements. Manage parts and supply inventory responsibly while controlling waste and unnecessary expenses. Communicate significant building, equipment, safety, and operational concerns to the General Manager with recommended solutions. Participate actively with hotel leadership in operational planning, budgeting, capital planning, and emergency preparedness. Respond appropriately to emergency situations and ensure the Engineering team is trained on hotel emergency procedures. Maintain the property at a consistently high standard without waiting for deficiencies, guest complaints, audits, or equipment failures to identify problems. What We Are Looking For We are looking for a proactive leader with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. The right candidate does not simply respond to work orders—the Chief Engineer should understand the overall condition of the hotel, know what is coming due, develop the team, anticipate problems, and take initiative to keep the property operating safely and efficiently.

Qualifications include:

Minimum 4 years of general building maintenance and/or construction experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of plumbing, electrical, mechanical, HVAC, and carpentry. Previous hotel engineering/maintenance experience strongly preferred. Previous supervisory or department-leadership experience preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage preventive maintenance schedules, checklists, vendors, inspections, and deadlines. Ability to train, coach, delegate, follow up, and hold team members accountable. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Appropriate professional certifications or licenses where required. The standard for this position is proactive maintenance, not reactive maintenance. Our Chief Engineer should take pride in developing a capable team and maintaining the hotel at a high standard every day—before a guest complaint, equipment failure, inspection, or audit tells us something needs attention.
