Project Engineer - Commercial Construction (Ground-Up Projects)
Location:
Lancaster, CA A growing commercial construction firm is seeking a Project Engineer with 3-5 years of experience to support ground-up commercial and public works construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to coordinate documentation, scheduling, and field operations across projects such as schools, office buildings, churches, and mixed-use industrial facilities. This is an excellent opportunity for a Construction Project Engineer or Assistant Project Manager looking to grow their career with a respected commercial builder while gaining exposure to a variety of projects. Position Highlights Work on ground-up commercial and public works construction projects Projects include schools, office buildings, churches, and industrial facilities Collaborate directly with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors Exposure to industry-leading construction management software Opportunity for long-term career growth within a stable construction team Key Responsibilities Assist with construction project planning, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination Manage and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, drawing logs, and project documentation Maintain daily reports, meeting notes, and organized project records Support field operations with material tracking, subcontractor coordination, and quality control Review construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents Coordinate inspections, permitting, and compliance documentation Communicate with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, inspectors, and project stakeholders Update and maintain data in construction project management systems Monitor project schedules and progress, identifying potential delays or risks Required Qualifications 3-5 years of experience as a Project Engineer, Construction Project Engineer, or Assistant Project Manager Experience supporting commercial construction or public works projects Exposure to ground-up building projects Experience with RFIs, submittals, change orders, and construction documentation Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and blueprints Strong organizational, communication, and multitasking skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) Preferred Qualifications Experience using Procore (Procore Certification is a strong plus) Scheduling experience with Microsoft Project or Primavera P6 Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field Experience working on school construction or other public works projects Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented construction professional who enjoys supporting complex building projects and working collaboratively with field teams, subcontractors, and project leadership.
