Senior Civil Engineer

THE POSITION

The Senior Civil Engineer performs and supervises the most complex engineering assignments. This position supervises field and office work in the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of public infrastructure; manages land development processes; manages and performs engineering analysis; and implements programs and administers projects. The current vacancy may manage airport projects, utility projects, water resources projects, and land development projects. This position supervises Associate and Assistant Civil Engineers.

Examples of Duties Include:

Administers engineering aspects of land development processes, including reviews for site plan approval, subdivision map processes for tentative and final maps Approves cost estimates, construction plans, and specifications Administers public works design and construction contracts as well as State and Federally funded projects Processes CEQA and NEPA environmental documents Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the Capital Improvement Program and organizational planning and training Prepares and monitors project budget Utilizes a personal computer to perform CAD, word processing, project scheduling, resource allocation, GIS programs, and spreadsheets functions Investigates claims against the City by contractors or developers on public works projects or by persons when requested by the City's insurance administrator Provides administrative and engineering assistance to developers, contractors, consultants, other agencies, and the general public to resolve complaints and problems, and ensure a successful project completion
