Job Description

Under the general direction of the Director of Public Works, City Engineer, or designee, this position performs a variety of highly complex and professional engineering administration duties to support the Engineering Division and Public Works Department, including planning, directing, and supervising a variety of engineering projects and programs; and to conceptualize, develop, design, and implement all phases of difficult design and engineering research projects; and performs other related duties as assigned. The Senior Civil Engineer reports to the Director of Public Works or City Engineer and assists with overseeing the day-to-day activities of the Engineering staff. The incumbent performs the more complex projects and plans, coordinates, and manages the work of professional, subprofessional and technical personnel.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience/Training Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in civil engineering or a related field is required. Three (3) years of responsible professional experience in civil engineering or a related field is required. Public sector and supervisory experience or lead is highly desirable. Licenses and Certifications License or Certificate of Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer in the State of California or registration in another state and have the ability to become registered in California within six (6) months of appointment through reciprocity, is required. Possession of a valid Class "C" California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. In accordance with California Government Code Section 3100, City of Monterey Park employees, in the event of a disaster, are considered disaster service workers and may be asked to protect the health, safety, lives, and property of the people of the State.
