Job Description
J&M Welding is a structural steel fabrication and erection subcontractor working commercial and public works projects across San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Monterey counties. We're hiring a Project Engineer to support estimating and project management from bid through closeout.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Assist with estimating: takeoffs, material pricing, bid packages, subcontractor and vendor quotes
- Support project management: submittals, RFIs, shop drawing transmittals, change orders, schedule updates
- Drive to job sites to verify field dimensions, confirm existing conditions, and document progress
- Maintain job files, drawing logs, and photo documentation in our project systems
- Coordinate with GCs, our shop foreman, and field crews to keep information flowing
- Track job costs against budget and flag issues early
WHAT SKILLS YOU NEED TO HAVE
- Ability to read and interpret structural and architectural drawings independently
- you should be able to pick up a plan set and work from it without hand-holding
- Strong organizational skills; you can manage multiple jobs and deadlines without dropping details
- Comfortable learning and following our systems and procedures
- we run documented processes, not tribal knowledge
- Proficient with Excel, PDF markup, and cloud-based file systems
- Valid California driver's license and clean driving record (regular travel to job sites)
- Construction experience preferred; structural steel or miscellaneous metals a strong plus
Pay:
$60,000.00- $85,000.
