Job Title:
Civil Engineer (Professional Engineer) Job Description This role offers an experienced Civil Professional Engineer the opportunity to lead and oversee complex projects involving roads, site development, grading, pavement, stormwater, water distribution, and sanitary sewer collection systems. You will manage projects ranging from $2M to $250M across a diverse portfolio that includes federal and state agencies, municipal governments, educational institutions, transportation and civic infrastructure, as well as private commercial, industrial, and multi-family developments. The position combines hands-on design work with project management responsibilities and offers strong professional growth, opportunities for ownership, and comprehensive benefits in an employee-owned environment. Responsibilities Lead the planning, design, and delivery of civil engineering projects focused on roads, site development, grading, pavement, stormwater, water distribution, and sanitary sewer collection systems. Oversee and coordinate all phases of design for public sector projects, including work for federal agencies, state and municipal governments, and educational institutions. Manage civil engineering design for transportation and civic infrastructure projects, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements. Deliver civil and structural engineering solutions for private commercial developments such as office buildings, retail complexes, and industrial facilities. Support the design and development of private housing and multi-family projects, including senior living and multi-family housing communities. Collaborate in design-build partnerships with private developers on mixed-use and commercial projects, contributing civil engineering expertise throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare and review stormwater management reports, drainage analyses, and related documentation to support permitting and regulatory approvals. Develop and refine grading plans, site layouts, and land development designs using AutoCAD and Civil 3D. Lead project management activities, including scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and coordination with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders. Ensure quality control and adherence to engineering standards and best practices across all project deliverables. Mentor and guide junior engineers and designers, providing technical direction and supporting their professional development. Engage with clients to understand project goals, provide technical recommendations, and maintain strong, collaborative relationships. Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate civil engineering designs with structural, architectural, and other project disciplines. Support the preparation of proposals, reports, and presentations as needed to win new work and communicate project progress. Essential Skills At least 10 years of experience in design and project management focused on site development, grading, stormwater, and/or water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems. Licensing as a Civil Professional Engineer (PE) in the State of California. Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil design and documentation. Experience in preparing stormwater reports and drainage documentation. Strong background in land development and site civil design. Demonstrated project management experience, including managing budgets, schedules, and multidisciplinary coordination. Ability to lead and oversee complex projects ranging from $2M to $250M in construction value. Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with public agencies, private clients, and internal teams. Additional Skills & Qualifications A Master's Degree in Civil Engineering is preferred. Experience with federal and Department of Defense (DoD) projects is preferred. Experience with public projects in California is preferred. Experience delivering projects for federal agencies such as military and veterans' organizations, state and municipal governments, and educational institutions, including K-12 schools and universities. Experience with transportation and civic infrastructure projects. background in civil and structural engineering for private commercial facilities such as office buildings, retail complexes, and industrial developments. Experience with private housing and multi-family projects, including senior and multi-family housing developments. Experience working in design-build environments and collaborating with private developers on mixed-use or commercial projects. Interest in ongoing professional development, including participation in professional associations and pursuit of additional certifications. Work Environment This position is primarily office-based, with an expectation of working on-site five days per week initially. A hybrid work arrangement may be available and is typically discussed after approximately three months, based on performance and mutual agreement with leadership. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Poway, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $62.50 - $68.00/hr.
