The ideal candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting the Project Manager in coordinating and executing all phases of commercial construction projects, from planning through closeout. This role focuses on maintaining accurate project documentation, facilitating communication between internal teams and external stakeholders, and ensuring project activities stay on schedule and within scope.
Job Purpose:
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the Project Manager in the execution and coordination of all aspects of commercial construction projects. This role demands a highly organized and detail-oriented individual who can manage technical documentation, facilitate communication between project stakeholders, and help ensure that project deliverables are completed on time and within scope. The Project Engineer plays a critical role in the planning, administration, and execution phases of construction.
Duties:
Maintain and update all project drawings and specifications to ensure accuracy across stakeholders. Assist in the distribution of documents, tracking logs, and project schedule updates. Write and submit RFIs in Procore; review against plans and ensure timely responses. Manage the submittal process from submission through review and approval, ensuring appropriate distribution. Evaluate project plans and documents, escalating any inconsistencies or issues to the Project Manager. Review the prime contract and its exhibits to verify compliance. Serve as the liaison between internal teams and the external design team. Manage Wells marketing display installations and coordinate returns. Coordinate with subcontractors and suppliers to support project execution and cost control. Assist with creating and managing change events and change orders in Procore. Aid in drafting subcontract scopes of work and verifying accuracy against project plans. Support documentation and reporting for LEED/Cal Green requirements. Create and maintain digital as-built plans throughout the life of the project. Attend and document project-related meetings, ensuring distribution of relevant information. Help track the project schedule and monitor contract and insurance compliance. Oversee major material acquisitions and tracking. Prepare and deliver regular project status reports for clients. Confirm client closeout expectations and coordinate document handoff to the Project Coordinator. Perform other tasks as needed to support project success.
Skills/Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements, as Wells recognizes the value of practical knowledge and skills gained in the field. Previous experience in commercial construction. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Procore Construction software (or similar), Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Project. Understanding of construction industry regulations and best practices. Ability to read and understand plans and specifications. Strong written and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail. Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities. Ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently, work collaboratively in a team, and adapt to changing priorities.
