Full Job Description Position Description:
Construction Project Engineer I is an entry-level position that requires a motivated, self-starting professional who embodies Redland's values and is committed to ongoing personal and professional growth. This role supports projects by assisting with design and documentation while developing technical skills through completion of positional Learning & Growth goals. Responsibilities include collaborating with colleagues, taking ownership of assigned tasks, and seeking to understand the broader context and objectives of each task, all while producing creative, high-quality work. This position requires the following at a minimum: Responsibilities Preparing cost estimates and quantity takeoffs for earthwork, site civil, landscape and irrigation improvements. Performing constructability and value engineering reviews during the civil engineering and landscape design process. Developing and coordinating bid documents, scope of work, and special provisions for incorporation into the contract documents. Performing construction field observation and reporting. Performing construction administrative tasks consisting of documentation of construction meetings including meeting agenda and minutes; reviewing and approving payment applications and change orders; logging and tracking change orders; facilitating Requests for Information (RFIs) and material submittals between contractor and review parties. Monitoring and updating project schedules. Coordinating and attending punchlist walks for project closeout and jurisdictional acceptance. Providing support to other team members and Project Manager(s). Participating in mentoring programs and career growth development. Performing other duties as required and assigned. Qualifications Education & Experience Possessing a bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering; or extensive work experience in a civil construction related field. Holding 4 years minimum of construction industry or engineering design experience, preferably focused on civil land development projects and horizontal civil construction. Registered EIT or PE preferred; or pursuing successful completion of the exam(s). Possessing a current valid driver's license. Competencies Technical Knowledge & Skills Demonstrating ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications and provide constructability and value engineering reviews. Proficient in construction estimation software and tools. Proficient in Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Construction Management Software (Procore preferred). AutoCAD or Civil3D and AGTEK earthwork estimating software experience preferred. Work Execution, Accountability & Problem Solving Maintaining efficiency and attention to detail by completing and reviewing work for accuracy and completeness prior to providing to others. Demonstrating detail-oriented approach with strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Understanding project goals, project schedules, and budgets, and working efficiently within direction provided by Project Manager(s) and team members. Being a self-starter who is self-motivated and takes ownership of tasks, proactively managing construction project tasks and deadlines. Seeking to understand the broader objectives and context of each project. Professional Development & Growth Exhibiting a commitment to continuous learning by engaging in Redland's mentoring programs and completing position-specific Learning and Growth goals. Utilizing Redland's Associate Rotation Program to widen learning experiences with managerial styles, market sectors, and project types. Demonstrating creative thinking and problem-solving by proactively identifying solutions and exploring alternatives before seeking guidance from others. Proactively building industry knowledge by seeking guidance from Engineers, Landscape Architects, Planners, and Construction Managers. Communication & Collaboration Communicating clearly and effectively within a team setting and with clients, agencies, contractors, and other disciplines involved in a project. Actively building positive working relationships with colleagues and contributing to a collaborative team culture. Exemplifying Redland's values and professional standards. Demonstrating excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work professionally with contractors, clients, and project stakeholders. Other Physical Requirements This position is in-person at our office in Littleton, Colorado and on-site at construction projects when required. Moving inside or outside the office and on non-ADA accessible construction sites. Occasionally moving or holding equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
