This is a front line engineering position in the Waterfront Engineering Directorate requiring the selected candidates to frequently interface with trades personnel in an active construction environment troubleshooting complex fabrication, assembly and major move activities. This position will require that the engineer develop build strategies, methods, and fixtures for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems, and modules. Primary responsibilities will be the identification and development of methods and tools required by the shipbuilder. Duties include development of details and designs for tools and fixtures, preparation of Manufacturing Engineering procedures for sequence and alignment of critical installations, and deckplate construction support. Class construction. Daily interaction with manufacturing and planning representatives from Groton, Quonset Point, Newport News, designers, and vendors is expected. Local travel between Groton and Quonset Point is required. This position is located in the Groton shipyard as part of D476 Manufacturing Engineering.

Qualifications:

Required:

Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing, Marine, or equivalent engineering degree 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience Broad understanding of structural/mechanical design, materials, weld design and bolted joints

Preferred:

Construction support experience 1+ years of engineering experience Master's degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Marine engineering
