Position Overview:
The Building Engineer is responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and performance of all building systems at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in Washington, D.C. This position provides technical expertise to the Building Operations team, ensuring the reliability, safety, and efficiency of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire, life safety, and HVAC systems. The Building Engineer will coordinate maintenance activities and ensure that all work complies with applicable codes and safety standards. This position requires proven experience in operating Class A commercial or institutional facilities.
Responsibilities:
Oversee daily building operations and ensure proper performance of all MEP, HVAC, life safety, and building automation systems. Support building engineers and maintenance staff in troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance. Coordinate and prioritize daily work orders, preventive maintenance schedules, and contractor work. Serve as the on-site technical expert for all electrical systems, ensuring compliance with NEC, NFPA, and local regulations. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and testing of equipment and systems. Monitor building automation and energy management systems to optimize efficiency and occupant comfort. Respond promptly to building emergencies, equipment failures, and after-hours service calls. Help develop and maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation. Support budgeting, capital planning, and vendor management as directed by the chief engineer. Provide recommendations for system upgrades, repairs, and process improvements. Provide overall management of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) for the Engineering and Maintenance team.
Qualifications:
Minimum of 5 years' experience in building operations or facilities management. 3rd Class Engineer License. Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Excellent communication and documentation skills. Certifications such as OSHA 10 and NFPA70E. Ability to respond to building emergencies and special projects during off-hours and on weekends. The salary range for this position is $111,137.00 to $135,000.00. The actual salary paid for this position will vary based on market data, an applicant's qualifications, relevant degrees, certifications, and other factors.
