Job Description

About FLS Composites FLS Composites is a fiberglass and composite manufacturing facility based in Honolulu, Hawaii. We specialize in both marine and architectural fiberglass, producing high-quality custom builds ranging from boat construction and repair to planter boxes and decorative architectural panels. Our team merges advanced manufacturing techniques with hands-on craftsmanship. Role Overview We are seeking a highly organized and technically proficient Project Engineer & Estimator to take ownership of our composite builds from the initial client concept all the way through to final delivery. This role serves as the critical bridge between the front office and shop floor execution. You will be responsible for producing accurate bids, developing detailed shop drawings, and leading project workflows to ensure complete, on-time, and on-budget execution. Please note that this is not an office-only position; the ideal candidate must be willing to step onto the shop floor and get their hands dirty from time to time to support the production team and drive projects across the finish line.
Key Responsibilities Bidding & Estimation:
Analyze client requests, engineering plans, and 3D models to generate accurate cost estimates and lay the groundwork for project execution. Calculate material takeoffs and labor requirements for complex fiberglass manufacturing projects.
Shop Drawings & CAD:
Create and refine precise shop drawings and 3D models to guide CNC routing and fabrication processes on the shop floor.
Job Planning & Procurement:
Develop comprehensive project schedules and coordinate the procurement of specialized composite materials and hardware to ensure uninterrupted production.
End-to-End Project Leadership:
Manage projects through their entire lifecycle. Act as the primary liaison between the front office and the shop foreman, addressing technical challenges, ensuring quality control standards are met, and actively assisting with hands-on fabrication or troubleshooting to guarantee successful completion.
Qualifications & Requirements Education:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, or Naval Architecture.
Credentialing:
Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC).
Physical Capabilities:
Must be able to lift a minimum of 60 lbs, stand for long periods of time, and comfortably transition between office work and active, hands-on tasks on the shop floor.
Soft Skills:
Able to communicate effectively in English, with a strong ability to organize and prioritize tasks to meet strict manufacturing deadlines.
Logistics:
Candidates must have access to reliable transportation to get to the primary shop and other job sites on time for the start of the shift.
Pre-Employment Screening:
All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening and a background check before employment begins. Failure to complete any of these steps will result in disqualification.
Preferred Qualifications Experience:
Experience working in the marine industry and hands-on or operational experience with fiberglass manufacturing.
Industry Passion:
