The successful applicant will join a highly motivated conservation team of biologists and engineers who are responsible for the planning, design and construction of wetland restoration and enhancement projects. Primary responsibilities will be in Iowa.
Responsibilities:
DU Engineers perform a full range of project planning, design, contracting, and construction management functions on wetland, riparian, and associated habitat restoration projects. Project delivery responsibilities include scoping and proposal development, survey, engineering design, project bidding, field inspection, and occasional construction management. A close working relationship with local, state, and federal personnel, private landowners, and other conservation partners will be an important aspect of the job. The position will include occasional travel.
Specific duties include:
Prepare proposals, scope of work, and budgets in close coordination with biological staff. Interpret, select, adapt, and apply engineering, surveying, and construction management principles and practices across a range of engineering services within a diverse conservation program. Complete engineering designs and reports as required. Prepare project plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates. Attend project meetings. Perform topographic surveys. Conduct field inspection and perform construction management oversight as needed. Ensure that consultants and contractors adhere to project plans, specifications, and schedules. Assist with occasional field work as required, which could include strenuous outdoor activity in difficult environmental conditions. Must be able to or willing to learn to operate ATV and outboard boat when necessary.
Experience and Education:
Must have at minimum, a B.S. in Civil Engineering or an equivalent degree from an
EAC/ABET
accredited engineering program, be a registered Engineer in Training (EIT), and have a preferred minimum of 2-3 years of experience in civil engineering design. Candidates with a Professional Engineering license are also strongly encouraged to apply, and compensation will be commensurate with experience.
Communication Skills:
Demonstrated oral, written, and good communication skills are essential.
Technological Proficiency:
Desirable qualifications include experience with surveying, Civil3D, hydrology, hydraulics, civil design including structures and pump stations, erosion control, construction inspection, and project management.
Interpersonal Skills:
Must be self-motivated, goal oriented and able to work with and solve problems in close team-based relationships.

Pay will be based on experience and education with a variable compensation incentive program.
