Job Description

The Opportunity FoldX Technologies designs factory-built modular housing for residential and commercial markets. We are seeking an experienced Lead Engineer to coordinate and complete the engineering required to turn FoldX concepts into fully documented, permit-ready, and production-ready building systems. This is an opportunity to move beyond a traditional consulting role and take direct ownership of products from design through certification, manufacturing, installation, and construction. You will work closely with our architects, designers, manufacturing team, and specialty engineers to deliver complete, coordinated plan sets and manufacturing drawings. A new kind of engineering challenge. FoldX buildings use steel framing, structural insulated panels, prefabricated assemblies, and proprietary folding and hinging technologies. This role requires practical engineering judgment across transportation, deployment, installation, and permanent building performance. Modular experience is valuable but not required; curiosity, adaptability, and strong building-engineering fundamentals are essential. Key Responsibilities Lead and coordinate all engineering requirements for FoldX residential and commercial modular buildings. Complete structural engineering calculations, specifications, details, and drawings required for permit and production. Coordinate structural, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, civil, energy, fire, and other specialty engineering disciplines. Work with the in-house architect to produce complete, coordinated plan sets and manufacturing drawing packages. Engineer standardized building designs for repeatable manufacturing while accommodating site and jurisdictional requirements. Research and apply applicable building codes, loading criteria, material standards, modular requirements, and local amendments. Prepare engineering submittals, respond to plan-review comments, and support state modular approvals and certifications. Serve as engineer of record and seal engineering plans, calculations, and specifications prepared under your responsible control. Collaborate with architects, product designers, manufacturing teams, installers, contractors, testing agencies, and building officials. Develop standardized calculations, details, specifications, design criteria, quality controls, and reusable engineering libraries. Review prototypes, testing, manufacturing, transportation, deployment, and field performance to improve future designs. Required Qualifications Current Idaho Professional Engineer license, or active PE licensure in another state with the ability to obtain Idaho licensure promptly. Experience engineering residential or light-commercial buildings and preparing complete calculation and drawing packages. Ability to lead engineering from concept through analysis, permitting, manufacturing, installation, and construction. Strong knowledge of structural design, residential and commercial building codes, material standards, and permitting. Experience establishing design loads and engineering steel, foundations, connections, panels, diaphragms, and lateral systems. Ability to coordinate internal work and outside engineering consultants across multiple disciplines and deadlines. Proficiency with structural analysis and design software plus AutoCAD, Revit, or comparable documentation tools. Strong calculation, detailing, technical-writing, quality-control, project-management, and communication skills. Willingness to work full-time in FoldX's Meridian office. Preferred Qualifications Professional engineering licensure in additional Western states, particularly Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Wyoming, or Arizona. NCEES record or the ability to obtain reciprocal PE licensure efficiently. Structural engineering experience with modular, factory-built, panelized, manufactured, or industrialized construction. Experience engineering standardized product platforms, master plans, or repeatable building systems. Expertise in cold-formed steel, structural insulated panels, connections, lifting, transportation loads, or design for manufacturing. Experience working directly with manufacturers, architects, specialty engineers, testing agencies, or field-installation teams. Why Join FoldX? At FoldX, you will help engineer and continuously improve a family of building products rather than move from one unrelated client project to another. You will see your work advance from analysis and testing to the factory floor and ultimately become completed homes and commercial buildings. You will work directly with decision-makers and have meaningful influence over product design, certification, manufacturing, and construction. As FoldX grows, this position may expand into a broader leadership role with the opportunity to build and manage an internal engineering team and consultant network. A Compelling Total Compensation Package Highly competitive base salary Performance-based bonuses Strong health and employee benefits Paid time off and company holidays Professional license, NCEES, continuing-education, and reciprocal-licensure support Equity opportunities for qualified candidates Significant professional growth and leadership potential
