Job Description

at Department of Transportation in Paris, Illinois, United States Job Description Essential Functions Designs Portland Cement Concrete ( PCC ) mixtures and verifies Hot Mix Asphalt ( HMA ) mixtures that are acceptable for use on highways. Establishes appropriate inspection methods and density and compaction procedures that ensure material acceptability on highways. Reviews plans and prepares special provisions to cover mixture design and proportioning required for state and local agency contracts. Determines the acceptability of substitute materials and chemical additives in mixture designs. Utilizes Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA), Quality Control for Performance ( QCP ) and Pay for Performance ( PFP ) specifications for quality assurance applications and monitors the field use of the specifications to ensure their acceptability for project use. Establishes training methods to adequately prepare assigned personnel for field proportioning and inspection assignments. Conducts investigations of problems with aggregates, HMA , and PCC mixtures and institutes corrective action if necessary. Keeps abreast with technologies which advance mixture design and control, recycling, and byproduct utilization. Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Current Illinois Professional Engineer licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Illinois OR current registration as licensed structural engineer in the state of Illinois. Five years of experience in civil engineering. Preferred Qualifications Strong oral and written communication skills.
