Job Description

Commonwealth Engineers, Inc. is seeking a Civil or Environmental Engineer with 2+ years of water resource experience for our South Bend, IN Office . This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who is interested in playing a key role in planning, designing, and implementing water resource projects that address potable water, wastewater, and stormwater. You will be assigned to a project team tasked with helping communities and industries solve their most challenging environmental infrastructure problems. Responsibilities The ideal candidate would have some experience with projects including pump stations, collection systems, distribution systems, and water/wastewater treatment plants and be working toward becoming a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the future. You would receive mentoring from experienced engineers on non-routine, complex projects/assignments and may coordinate or review the work of less experienced engineering interns. Work collaboratively with project managers, project engineers, CAD designers, and environmental scientists. Prepare engineering reports, construction documents, cost estimates, and technical memos. Perform simple design calculations under the supervision of a project engineer or project manager. Interpret and apply federal, state, and local regulations related to water resources and stormwater. Contact government officials for permits and prepare permit applications. Conduct site visits, field investigations, and inspections as needed. Coordinate with contractors. Communicate technical findings effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Qualifications/Skills Minimum 2+ years of experience in water resources engineering B.S. in Civil or Environmental Engineering (a graduate degree is a plus) Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam certification with progress toward PE licensure Experience with hydrologic/hydraulic modeling tools is a plus Excellent verbal and written communication Valid driver's license Ability to apply technical skills to meet project demands and solve problems for our clients Positive attitude and an impressive work ethic A clear sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet deadlines Attention to detail and ability to contribute to a positive work environment Benefits Commonwealth has earned our reputation as a leader in the water resource industry.
