Job Description

Geotechnical Project Engineer Location:
Slidell, Louisiana Type:
Full-Time About the Opportunity We are partnered with a growing geotechnical engineering consultancy that has built a strong reputation delivering complex private development projects across South Louisiana. Despite being a relatively lean team, the firm is consistently winning high-value work including hospitals, large-scale industrial facilities, and mixed-use developments. This is an opportunity to join a business where you will have direct exposure to project leadership, client interaction, and technically challenging work from day one. The environment is hands-on, fast-paced, and suited to engineers who want to accelerate their development without the layers of a large corporate structure. The Role As a Geotechnical Project Engineer, you will play a key role in delivering geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design recommendations across a wide range of projects. You will work closely with senior engineers and leadership while taking ownership of your own project responsibilities. Projects are primarily focused around private development, including healthcare facilities, warehouses, and mixed-use buildings, often in challenging subsurface conditions typical of the Greater New Orleans region. Key Responsibilities Plan, coordinate, and execute geotechnical investigations including subsurface exploration and laboratory testing Perform engineering analyses and develop recommendations for: Shallow and deep foundations Ground improvement techniques Settlement and bearing capacity Earthwork and site development Prepare detailed geotechnical reports and communicate findings clearly to clients and project teams Work closely with drillers, field staff, and laboratory personnel to ensure high-quality data collection Provide field support including site visits, observations, and construction-related services Collaborate with clients, contractors, and internal teams to deliver projects on time and within budget Support proposal preparation and contribute to maintaining strong client relationships What They're Looking For Experience Ideally 5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience , with project delivery exposure Also open to 3+ years experience (EIT) if technically strong and progressing toward PE Experience working in Louisiana / Gulf Coast soil conditions preferred (soft clays, high groundwater, compressible soils, etc.) Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Geotechnical focus preferred) Professional Engineer (PE) in Louisiana preferred EIT candidates with a clear path to licensure will be considered Technical Skillset Strong understanding of subsurface investigations and soil mechanics Experience with foundation design, settlement analysis, and geotechnical reporting Familiarity with common geotechnical software (e.g. LPILE, Settle3, or similar) is advantageous Soft Skills Ability to take ownership of projects and manage multiple priorities Strong written and verbal communication skills Comfortable working in a client-facing environment within a smaller team Why This Role Stands Out High-impact role within a small, growing firm where your work is visible Opportunity to work on large, high-profile private developments Faster progression compared to larger consultancies Direct exposure to leadership and decision-making Strong pipeline of work across healthcare, industrial, and commercial sectors Summary This position is ideal for a geotechnical engineer who wants to combine strong technical work with real project ownership. Whether you are already licensed or on the path to your PE, this role offers the chance to step into a more visible and influential position within a business that is punching above its weight in the Louisiana market.
