Job Description
Civil Project Engineer (Land Development)Position OverviewWe are seeking a Civil Design Engineer to lead and execute civil engineering design for land development projects including commercial, residential, and industrial sites. The role focuses on site design, grading, drainage, and stormwater management, ensuring compliance with local design standards and regulatory requirements while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to deliver safe, cost-effective, and constructible solutions.
Key ResponsibilitiesDevelop civil engineering designs and construction documents for land development projects, including site plans, grading, drainage, stormwater management, utilities, and erosion control.
Prepare calculations, technical reports, and permit submittals to support design decisions and regulatory approvals.
Use AutoCAD / Civil 3D to produce and revise plans, profiles, sections, and details; maintain drawing standards and project file organization.
Coordinate with surveyors, geotechnical engineers, landscape architects, and other stakeholders to integrate site constraints and subsurface data into designs.
Ensure designs comply with local, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and design standards; update designs based on agency review comments.
Perform quality control and technical review of design deliverables, cost estimates, and construction specifications.
Participate in client meetings, present design concepts, respond to RFIs during construction, and support construction observation when needed.
Manage project schedules, budgets, and deliverables; mentor junior engineers and coordinate with project managers to meet milestones.
QualificationsBachelors degree in Civil Engineering or related fieldFundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification or EIT4+ years of relevant civil design experience with a focus on Land DevelopmentDemonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D for site design, grading, and drainage layout.
Strong knowledge of stormwater management design, drainage calculations, and erosion & sediment control practices.
Familiarity with design standards, local permitting processes, and construction documentation for commercial, residential, and industrial projects.
Experience or working knowledge of geotechnical reporting integration, land surveying coordination, and water resources engineering principles.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
