A Building Engineer utilizes a mixture of construction knowledge and engineering principles to aid with building projects. Analyzes reports, helps design structures, and manages contracts and budgets. Also creates construction schedules and keeps construction sites in compliance with applicable laws.
A.M.P. Contracting LLC, a structural steel and pre-engineered metal building subcontractor, we are hiring a Field Engineer to support our Project Managers and Foremen across multiple active jobsites. This role owns field layout accuracy and quality, floats between projects as needed, and acts as the go-to person for on-site support, coordination, and problem-solving What You'll Do Day-to-Day Start the day checking in with the PM and/or Foreman(s) to find out which job(s) need you and what's the priority your site assignment can change daily. Join daily huddles on active projects, catching any blockers early so work keeps moving. Review Foremen's daily reports from the day before, checking they're complete and accurate, and flagging anything missing. Walk the site to verify layout, progress , and quality Run quality checks as work is completed and log findings on your checklist.
Handle whatever comes up:
a part or tool that needs to be picked up and dropped at another site, a delivery that needs confirming, paperwork that needs to move from one job to another. Work punch list items to closeout, coordinating with the Foreman to confirm items are actually done before marking them complete. Keep an eye on jobsite safety, cleanliness, and organization everywhere you go not just where you're assigned. End the day getting the PM up to speed on what you saw, what got fixed, and what still needs attention.

Qualifications :
2-5 years of hands-on field experience in structural steel erection, PEMB construction, or comparable commercial construction layout work. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Must be able to operate forklift and aerial lifts Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project documentation OSHA 30 certification preferred (OSHA 10 considered with willingness to obtain OSHA 30) Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills Ability to thrive in fast-paced construction environments and adapt to changing field conditions Experience with surveying is a plus Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between multiple active jobsites, sometimes on short notice and work extended hours when needed. Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus
Physical Requirements :
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions on active construction sites. Ability to climb, balance, and work at heights consistent with structural steel erection sites. Ability to lift/carry materials and equipment as needed (tools, layout equipment, supplies for site runs). Valid driver's license required

This role is a strong stepping stone at A.M.P. Contracting. Field Engineers who master layout, quality, jobsite coordination, and working closely with both Foremen and Project Managers are positioned to grow into Project Manager or Superintendent roles as the company continues to expand. This is a genuine path up, not a standalone position with a ceiling.
