Job Title:
Civil Engineer Job Description This role offers an opportunity for a skilled and detail-oriented Civil Engineer to support the efficient and reliable operation of infrastructure and bulk material handling systems at a power generating station in Brilliant, Ohio. You will focus on the design, upgrade, maintenance, and optimization of structural assets and material handling systems, including conveyors, transfer points, roads, stacks, ductwork steel, roofs, storage facilities, and foundations. You will help ensure operational continuity, safety, and long-term infrastructure planning, while supporting the integration of new technologies and the upkeep of existing systems. The position also involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure that civil assets align with production goals, reliability standards, and regulatory requirements, with strong long-term career growth, benefits, and the opportunity to pursue professional engineering licensure. Responsibilities Scope, plan, coordinate, and assist in managing the design, construction, and commissioning of new plant systems and modifications to existing systems. Create and update drawings, system descriptions, and other design-basis documentation to accurately reflect plant configurations and changes. Assist in project management to ensure modifications and updates follow applicable design standards, including reviewing designs from external engineering firms for compliance. Support the development, configuration, and implementation of new installations and modifications or maintenance activities for existing plant systems. Support the design, installation, and modification of bulk material handling systems to align with operational requirements and long-term reliability goals. Continuously assess plant conditions and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement, risk mitigation, and proactive maintenance planning. Support process owners in integrating new automation technologies into existing plant infrastructure. Develop preventative maintenance schedules for material handling equipment, plant structures, and other civil systems, including long-range planning of system overhauls and component replacement to meet reliability and compliance requirements. Work with process owners to facilitate risk mitigation strategies for assigned equipment and systems. Support the development of, and maintain an understanding of, the impact of technical strategies and business decisions on the organization, its customers, and other internal stakeholders, and provide input into these decisions. Network across the organization, with peer companies, and with regulatory agencies to exchange information and support best practices. Perform root cause analysis of equipment performance issues, determine corrective actions, and make recommendations to resolve recurring or critical problems. Maintain technical documents, including equipment manuals, maintenance requirements, spare parts lists, and equipment specifications, ensuring they remain current and accessible. Implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement practices to enhance plant efficiency, reliability, and asset performance. Perform a variety of routine and complex administrative, supervisory, and technical work associated with solid waste landfill operations and fly ash reservoir operations. Support all projects at the landfill and fly ash reservoir, including daily operations and closure-related activities. Support inspections required by Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) regulations and related programs, and complete the associated reports accurately and on time. Support inspections and analysis of equipment and operating and maintenance problems, determine root causes, and implement improvements or corrective actions. Gather and transfer information and data required by state and federal regulatory agencies, ensuring accuracy and compliance. Assist in landfill surveying work to support design, operations, and closure planning. Prepare plans and specifications for landfill and fly ash reservoir operations, ensuring they meet engineering and regulatory standards. Help solicit proposals, prepare bid documents, and support negotiation and administration of contracts for landfill and fly ash reservoir projects. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from a program accredited by ABET or ATMAE. Proficiency in civil engineering principles and practices, including civil design and land development. Knowledge of structural analysis and design for industrial and infrastructure applications. Knowledge of foundation and concrete systems and their application in plant and infrastructure projects. Knowledge of site layout and grading for industrial facilities and related infrastructure. Knowledge of material handling systems, including conveyors and associated structures. Knowledge of infrastructure inspection and maintenance planning for long-term asset reliability. Ability to use AutoCAD or similar design tools for civil and structural drawings. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with a diverse workforce. Ability to make sound engineering decisions with minimal or no supervision. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience in civil design for site development, stormwater management, and land development is beneficial. Experience with structural analysis and design software is advantageous. Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies. Understanding of coal combustion residual (CCR) regulations and related inspection and reporting requirements. Experience with landfill and reservoir operations, including surveying, planning, and closure activities, is a plus. Interest in pursuing a Professional Engineer (PE) license, with support and opportunities to obtain licensure. Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams, external engineering firms, and regulatory agencies. Organizational skills to manage documentation, preventive maintenance plans, and project deliverables. Work Environment The position is based at an energy generation facility in Brilliant, Ohio, with work centered on plant infrastructure, bulk material handling systems, and associated landfill and fly ash reservoir operations. You will work in an industrial environment that combines office-based engineering tasks, such as design, documentation, and analysis, with field-based activities, including inspections, surveying support, and oversight of construction and maintenance work. The role involves collaboration with operations, maintenance, and project teams, as well as interaction with external engineering firms and regulatory agencies. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brilliant, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
