Job Description

Position Summary:
Vertiv is seeking a motivated and technically skilled Project Engineer to serve as the engineering lead on High Density Liquid Cooling (HDLC) and Integrated Solutions installation projects across the United States. This role is responsible for leading liquid cooling projects involving Vertiv Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), Secondary Fluid Network (SFN) manifolds, Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx) and IS projects including SmartRun, SmartRow 2 and VACS systems. The Project Engineer will manage the technical execution of projects from material procurement through commissioning, performing site walks, coordinating with installers, and ensuring all work meets Vertiv's quality and safety standards. The Project Engineer will also be required to provide technical support and guidance to the Vertiv Installation team and the customer, while maintaining the highest level of quality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the technical lead on liquid cooling and IS installation projects, providing engineering guidance and direction to installation teams throughout the project lifecycle. Lead the installation of Vertiv CDUs, SFN manifolds, Rear Door Heat Exchangers, SmartRow 2 and VACS systems from planning through commissioning. Develop and manage Bills of Material (BOMs), order all necessary installation materials, and ensure accuracy and timely delivery to project sites. Perform pre-installation site walks to assess site readiness, identify potential conflicts, and validate design assumptions against field conditions. Provide hands-on technical assistance and guidance to installation crews throughout the project, resolving technical issues as they arise. Create and maintain project documentation and procedures. Ensure all installation work complies with Vertiv standards, client requirements, and applicable codes and regulations. Work closely with Project Management to monitor project schedules, provide regular updates to stakeholders, and take corrective action as needed. Perform all work with safety in mind and ensure that all safety measures and OSHA regulations are met on project sites. Support commissioning activities to ensure liquid cooling and IS systems are fully tested and operational before customer handover. Work with cross-functional teams including Purchasing, Operations, Quality, and Field Engineering to ensure project profitability and success.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience). 3+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, project engineering, or a related technical role. Strong understanding of thermal dynamics and heat transfer principles. Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings, P&IDs, and construction documents. Ability to manage multiple projects effectively and efficiently. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Willingness to travel up to 50% within the U.S. for site walks and installation support.
Preferred Qualifications:
Direct experience with High Density Liquid Cooling systems in data center environments. Hands-on experience with Coolant Distribution Units (CDUs), secondary fluid networks, or liquid-to-liquid heat exchangers. Knowledge of data center mission-critical infrastructure and MEP systems. Familiarity with construction management software (e.g., Procore, CX Alloy, MS Project). Previous experience working for or with Vertiv or similar data center infrastructure providers. Experience with prefabrication, modular builds, or fast-track construction methodologies.
Position Eligibility Requirements:
Travel up to 50%.
Location:
Lorain, OH office or remote with demonstrated relevant experience in liquid cooling or data center infrastructure. Due to the safety sensitive aspect of the role, candidates are required to successfully pass a drug test prior to employment. In addition, you will also be required to complete and pass a pre-employment background check. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance and are role based. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to receive and/or participate in profit sharing, allowances, travel and/or car expenses, and earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization depending on the terms of the employee's role and individual offer details.
