Our highway/roadway design professionals undertake projects ranging in all sizes and complexities, providing conceptual planning, alignment studies, and preparing contract documents for construction of improvements to local and county roadway networks, and state and interstate highways. We develop alternative improvement plans to balance project costs with other factors including environmental, utility and property impacts. Apply broad knowledge of engineering principles and practices in highway/roadway design. Independently evaluate, select, and adapt standard techniques, procedures and criteria. Assist project managers and technical leads in developing highway and traffic design plans that may include grading, signs, pavement markings, traffic signals, roadside safety devices, ITS, drainage, pavement, and utilities. Demonstrate strong understanding of codes, provisions, and standards including the MUTCD and AASHTO guidelines. Prepare complete project documents independently. Analyze and interpret data, formulate and solve problems. Assist with the preparation of scopes of work, budgets, and schedule meetings. Serve as a mentor and technical advisor to engineers and senior engineers. Organize and perform field investigations/site visits as needed. Perform engineering calculations and create cost estimates. Establish and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors, clients, and colleagues. Meet schedule, budget, and quality goals set by project managers. Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required. 5+ years' experience in highway/roadway design is required. Engineer in Training (EIT) certification is required; PE license preferred. MicroStation, Geopak/InRoads and current OpenRoads experience is required. Civil 3D and DOT experience is a plus. Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
