Job Title:
Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer Job Description This role supports Project and Senior Project Managers throughout the design, pre-construction, and construction phases of commercial and mechanical/HVAC projects. The Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer helps manage scope, schedule, budget, contracts, and the bid process, while coordinating with design teams, subcontractors, and customers. This position offers exposure to large-scale, state-of-the-art data center and commercial construction projects, with the opportunity to interface with Senior leadership and contribute to complex, multi-building initiatives over several years. Responsibilities Work directly with the project management team to help manage and estimate construction projects across design, pre-construction, and construction phases. Organize and control project elements to ensure successful completion of engineering and construction projects. Review construction and engineering drawings for accuracy, completeness, and constructability. Assemble all necessary details and documentation to prepare accurate job bid proposals. Develop and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and interact with them to secure required information for job bids and project execution. Support the Project Manager in collecting and organizing information needed to complete monthly Work in Progress (WIP) reports. Assist with projecting, tracking, and maintaining adherence to job budgets and the timing of tasks and milestones. Maintain project schedules by monitoring progress, coordinating activities among internal and external stakeholders, and surfacing issues that require resolution. Interface with subcontractors as needed to ensure schedule compliance and timely delivery of work and materials. Control project costs by recommending expenditures, monitoring budgets, and administering contractor contracts in alignment with project goals. Prepare project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, and recommending actions to keep projects on track. Travel to job sites as necessary to review progress, address issues, and provide solutions to field challenges. Assist in developing and maintaining project timelines, ensuring milestones and deadlines are clearly defined and communicated. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations on project sites and within the office. Maintain the project database by updating construction management systems with current project information, documentation, and status updates. Support the Project Manager by responding to customer inquiries and providing timely, professional communication. Contribute to team efforts by performing related tasks and supporting colleagues as needed to achieve project and organizational objectives. Take responsibility for project financials, administration, implementation, management, and customer satisfaction for assigned projects. Manage the implementation and ongoing management of HVAC equipment projects, ensuring alignment with defined scope of work and project schedule. Oversee a portfolio of projects that may include both smaller jobs and larger, multi-building or complex construction projects. Manage project scope, cost, and schedule by reviewing contract documents, conducting internal coordination meetings, and establishing clear customer expectations. Identify project risks, develop mitigation plans, and communicate potential impacts to stakeholders. Compare estimated equipment ship dates with contractor project schedules and ensure compliance with internal equipment ordering processes. Maintain the accuracy of forecasted cost at completion and control expenses by closely monitoring assigned project budgets and financial performance. Essential Skills Demonstrated experience in project management within construction, commercial construction, or mechanical construction environments. Hands-on experience with HVAC projects and mechanical engineering or project engineering responsibilities. Proficiency in project estimation, including preparing job bid proposals and evaluating subcontractor input. Experience with project scheduling and the use of project management or construction scheduling software. Ability to read, interpret, and review construction documents, engineering drawings, and contract documents for accuracy and completeness. Experience managing construction scope, cost, and schedule, including change order processes and project coordination. Strong customer service skills with a proven ability to manage customer expectations and maintain customer satisfaction. Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive approach to identifying issues and implementing solutions. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams, subcontractors, and customers. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a project team. Ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining high attention to detail. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Project Management. Formal education or training in construction management or engineering disciplines. Experience with mechanical construction and HVAC equipment projects. Familiarity with project scheduling tools and construction project management software. Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including complex or multi-building construction projects. Exposure to electrical and mechanical systems in commercial or data center environments. Experience preparing and maintaining Work in Progress (WIP) reports and project financial forecasts. Comfort interfacing with upper leadership and executives on project status, risks, and outcomes. Interest in long-term involvement with large-scale, technically complex projects such as data centers. Work Environment This position operates in a hybrid setting that combines an office environment with regular on-site visits to active construction projects. In the office, you will use construction management systems, project scheduling tools, and standard business software to manage documentation, budgets, and schedules. On job sites, you will interact with field teams, subcontractors, and inspectors, and observe the installation and commissioning of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, including in state-of-the-art data centers. The work is fast-paced and deadline-driven, requiring flexibility to shift between office-based coordination and on-site problem solving. Standard professional attire is expected in the office, while appropriate safety gear and site-appropriate clothing are required during site visits in accordance with safety procedures, rules, and regulations.up Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Muskogee, OK. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $32.00 - $48.08/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
