Civil Engineer Job Description The Civil Engineer will perform a wide range of technical engineering assignments, working both independently and as part of a collaborative project team. Depending on experience level and licensure status, you will contribute to projects in transportation, water and wastewater, municipal engineering, or land development. This role is ideal for candidates who hold a bachelor's degree in civil engineering and are on the path toward obtaining or have already obtained EIT or PE licensure. Responsibilities Execute technical civil engineering design and analysis tasks on projects in transportation, water and wastewater, municipal engineering, or land development, depending on your background and interests. Prepare and develop detailed site, grading, and drainage plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, ensuring accuracy and adherence to project specifications and applicable standards. Assist with or lead the design of stormwater management systems, including stormwater conveyance, detention, and related site development components. Support municipal engineering projects by preparing plans, reports, and technical documentation for review by local municipalities and regulatory agencies. Collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams, including other engineers, designers, and technical staff, to deliver coordinated and constructible design solutions. Contribute to transportation engineering tasks, which may include roadway, intersection, or related infrastructure design, depending on project needs and your experience. Participate in the preparation of engineering drawings, specifications, and design calculations for review and approval by senior engineers or project managers. Apply civil engineering principles and standards to support land development projects, including layout, grading, utilities, and site infrastructure design. Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design tools to update, refine, and maintain project drawings throughout the design process. Engage in ongoing learning and mentoring opportunities to progress toward EIT and PE licensure, with support from experienced engineers. Coordinate with internal stakeholders and, when appropriate, external partners to ensure that project deliverables meet quality, schedule, and technical requirements. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. 2-15+ years of professional civil engineering experience. Experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design and drafting. Experience or strong interest in one or more of the following areas: land development, municipal engineering, water resources, or transportation engineering. Progress toward Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure, with EIT or PE preferred depending on experience. Ability to perform civil design tasks related to stormwater, site development, grading, and drainage. Proficiency in applying civil engineering principles to real-world projects in a professional environment. Strong attention to detail and accuracy in design work and documentation. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a project team. Additional Skills & Qualifications EIT certification or PE licensure preferred, depending on experience level. Experience with municipal engineering and working with local municipalities. background or exposure to water and wastewater projects, including water resources engineering. Experience with transportation engineering, including roadway or related infrastructure design. Familiarity with additional design tools such as Revit is beneficial. Experience as a civil designer or in a similar design-focused civil engineering role. Interest in long-term professional growth, including mentorship to achieve EIT and PE credentials. Strong design and problem-solving skills, with the ability to contribute to multidisciplinary project teams. Ability to handle a variety of project types, including land development, municipal, water resources, and transportation.
