The basic purpose of this work is to perform professional engineering duties in such areas as highways, bridges, buildings and facilities all in accordance with sound engineering principles, applicable laws, regulations and standards. Duties and Responsibilities Performs engineering reviews of permit application submittals and recommends modifications to plans, specifications, TTCP's, and engineering agreements in accordance with MassDOT design criteria, policies, and regulations. Assists the District Permit Engineer and the Operations Division with coordination of the District's review of environmental documents as part of the MEPA Process. Assists the District Permit Engineer in administering Special Permit activities, such as movie/television filming requests. Performs customer service work (email, telephone, and person to person) to potential permit grantees and other public and private entities to ensure an effective, consistent, and streamlined MassDOT permitting process. Prepares outgoing correspondence in response to customer inquiries, permit submittals, and other related unit matters requiring an official response. Consults and coordinates with various District and Statewide Units and Sections to ensure permits are reviewed and prepared in a timely manner for issuance in accordance with CMR requirements. Prepares permit submittal packages to the District Permit Engineer for final review. Supervises and inspects Permit projects for vehicular and non‐vehicular access permits for compliance with engineering principles, applicable standards, permit conditions and approved engineering plans. Organizes, reviews, enters, and extracts data into and from the current permit software application (SHAPS). Reviews and processes access permit work requests submitted as road work notification forms (RWNFs) and enters applicable information into the Work Zone Manager Application for approval. Maintains documents and standardized forms. Performs related duties as required. This position is eligible for a five-thousand dollar ($5,000) signing bonus ("Signing Bonus") if you are newly hired at MassDOT. Current MassDOT employees are not eligible for the Signing Bonus. The Signing Bonus will be paid in two parts: 1) $3,000 (less applicable taxes) included in the employee's first paycheck. 2) $2,000 (less applicable taxes) after the successful completion of the employee's probationary period. Substitutions I. An Associate's degree with a major in civil engineering

  • may be substituted for a maximum of one year of the required experience.

NOTE:
The terms civil engineering and civil engineering technology include related engineering disciplines such as construction, survey, hydraulics, design, transportation, structural, soils, sanitary, environmental, drafting, highway, architectural, mining, airport and materials. Education toward such a degree will be prorated on the basis of the proportion of the requirements actually completed.
