Job Title:
Civil Project Engineer Job Description This role offers the opportunity to contribute to large-scale community developments, residential land development, and commercial projects throughout the Puget Sound area. The civil project engineer will support and lead civil design efforts with a focus on site layout, grading, stormwater, and utilities, while progressing toward project management responsibilities. This position is ideal for a civil engineer who wants to deepen their technical expertise, work closely with a collaborative team, and grow into a project management role within a well-established consulting environment. Responsibilities Support and lead civil design engineering for land development projects, including residential subdivisions, commercial developments, and large community projects in the Puget Sound area. Develop site layouts, grading plans, drainage plans, and utility designs that meet project requirements and local regulations. Prepare and review site development plans, including stormwater management, wastewater systems, and overall civil site design. Use AutoCAD and Civil 3D to produce accurate and detailed engineering drawings, models, and design documents. Coordinate civil design elements such as stormwater, grading, utilities, and site access to ensure constructability and compliance with Washington state and local requirements. Collaborate with internal team members and other disciplines to deliver integrated, high-quality design solutions. Assist with preparing technical reports, calculations, and documentation to support permitting and approvals. Apply a strong understanding of Washington stormwater requirements to design compliant systems and prepare related documentation. Participate in project meetings and contribute to design decisions, schedules, and project planning. Pursue and develop project management skills, including scope definition, schedule tracking, and coordination with clients and stakeholders. Support Sr engineers and project managers in delivering projects on time, within scope, and to the required quality standards. Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture by sharing knowledge, mentoring junior staff as appropriate, and engaging in continuous improvement of design processes. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required. 3-8 years of experience supporting civil engineering for land development projects. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil design and drafting. Strong knowledge of site layout, grading, stormwater, and utilities design. Local experience with a strong understanding of Washington stormwater requirements. Experience in site development, including residential subdivisions and commercial sites. Demonstrated ability to produce civil engineering design documents such as site plans, grading plans, drainage plans, and utility plans. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders. Interest in pursuing project management responsibilities as part of long-term career goals. Additional Skills & Qualifications Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desired. Experience with civil site design, including stormwater, wastewater, and drainage systems. Experience in civil engineering design for a variety of land development projects. Familiarity with local permitting processes and development standards in Washington. Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects while maintaining attention to detail. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to develop practical, constructible design solutions. Motivation to grow within a consulting environment and take on increasing levels of responsibility. Interest in long-term tenure and contributing to a stable, experienced team. Work Environment This role is based in a modern office in Federal Way, in a recently upgraded building with convenient access to I-5. The team prefers an in-office environment to support collaboration, mentoring, and real-time problem-solving, with some flexibility and the potential to work toward a hybrid schedule of up to two days per week from home. The work culture is friendly and casual, with an emphasis on teamwork, professional growth, and long-term relationships—many team members have been with the company for 10, 15, and over 20 years. The position uses AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and other standard civil engineering tools in a typical office setting. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Federal Way, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $55.00/hr.
