Job Title:
Senior Civil Engineer Job Description This Civil Engineer role focuses on delivering high‑quality land development and structural design projects by providing precise technical specifications, performing detailed civil design calculations, and producing accurate construction documentation. The position requires independent judgment in applying standard engineering techniques and procedures, coordinating closely with internal teams, managing project budgets and timelines, and optimizing operational efficiency. You will play a key role in enforcing quality assurance procedures, upholding safety policies, and maintaining strong communication with staff and clients in a collaborative, relationship‑driven environment. Responsibilities Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard civil engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to produce construction documentation for land development projects. Provide clear technical specifications and guidance to support project planning, design, and execution. Coordinate activities with CAD supervisors, project managers, engineers, and surveyors to gather project information and ensure drawings and documentation are accurate, complete, and timely. Direct the work of drafters and technicians by providing plans, specifications, and both written and verbal instructions. Perform civil design calculations, including load calculations, grading, and other modeling tasks as required. Understand jurisdictional standards, policies, and local design procedural manuals, and know how and where to obtain relevant standards and guidelines. Review drawings and documents supplied by vendors, clients, engineers, and architects, and recommend necessary changes to ensure completeness and accuracy before submittal to leadership and agencies. Create and enforce quality assurance procedures to maintain high standards of engineering and documentation. Develop strategies to optimize project operations, workflow, and efficiency across multiple assignments. Manage project budgets and timelines, monitoring progress and making adjustments to keep projects on track. Maintain active and clear communication with staff and project stakeholders to support smooth project execution. Implement and uphold company safety policies and regulations throughout all project phases. Engage directly with clients in a professional manner, supporting a client-focused approach and building long-term relationships. Contribute to a culture that values honesty, integrity, excellence, and long-term stability in project delivery. Essential Skills 5-10 years of civil engineering and/or structural design experience, preferably within land development projects. Proficiency with AutoCAD for preparing and reviewing engineering drawings. Proficiency with Civil 3D for civil design, grading, and modeling tasks. Experience performing civil design calculations, including load calculations and grading design. Demonstrated civil and design experience in a professional engineering environment. Experience working on projects in the United States; outside U.S. experience may be considered when combined with U.S. project exposure. Strong project management capabilities, including coordinating multidisciplinary teams and managing budgets and timelines. Ability to read, interpret, and review drawings from vendors, clients, engineers, and architects for completeness and accuracy. Strong understanding of jurisdictional standards, policies, and local design procedural manuals, and the ability to apply them in project work. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction with internal teams and clients. Client-facing experience with the ability to represent the firm professionally and support a client-focused culture. Commitment to quality assurance, safety policies, and regulatory compliance in all project activities. Additional Skills & Qualifications Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in civil engineering or a related engineering discipline is preferred. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license or active preparation and intent to obtain a P.E. license. Experience with Revit and structural or land development design is beneficial. Strong references demonstrating reliability, technical competence, and professional conduct. Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively in a close‑knit team. A positive, solutions‑oriented attitude that supports a culture of excellence, honesty, and integrity. Demonstrated focus on building and maintaining long-term client relationships. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Roseville, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $145000.00 - $165000.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
