(RES) is a growing, small engineering firm specializing in structural and civil engineering services for residential and commercial projects. We pride ourselves on practical, cost-effective engineering solutions, creative problem-solving, and doing what is right for our clients. We are not a firm that believes in overengineering or simply choosing the easiest solution. We value engineers who think critically, explore alternatives, understand real-world construction challenges, and take pride in delivering thoughtful designs that balance structural integrity, constructability, and cost. As we continue expanding our presence in Florida, we are looking for an experienced, confident Structural Engineer (EI/EIT or PE) who wants to grow alongside us. About the Opportunity This is a unique opportunity for an engineer who enjoys independence, client interaction, and having a direct impact on a growing business. We are looking for someone who can confidently perform site visits, communicate with clients, develop structural designs, and assist with light project management and technical direction. The position is approximately 80% remote , allowing you to work from home with occasional site visits throughout South Florida. We typically schedule a few site visits per week based on your availability and project demand. We are intentionally starting this position part-time, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role as our Florida operations expand. We are not simply looking to fill a position. We want to find the right person who can become an important part of our long-term growth. Responsibilities Perform structural site visits, inspections, assessments, and field evaluations throughout South Florida. Communicate directly with homeowners, contractors, developers, and other clients to understand project needs and explain engineering recommendations. Develop practical, cost-conscious structural designs for residential and commercial projects. Perform structural calculations, evaluate existing conditions, and develop repair or modification solutions. Provide technical direction and clear instructions to drafting staff and supporting engineers. Review structural drawings, calculations, and project deliverables for accuracy, completeness, and constructability. Assist with light project management, including coordinating design activities, answering project questions, and helping move projects toward completion. Identify alternative engineering approaches that can reduce construction costs without compromising safety or code compliance. Collaborate remotely with our principal engineer and administrative team to maintain project quality and client satisfaction. Help support and develop our growing Florida client base through strong communication, responsiveness, and professional relationships. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. EI/EIT certification or Professional Engineer (PE) license. Florida PE licensure is preferred. Mid-level structural engineering experience, preferably 3-7+ years, with the ability to work independently within your level of licensure. Experience with residential and/or commercial structural design, inspections, renovations, and repairs. Familiarity with the Florida Building Code and applicable structural design standards. Ability to evaluate existing structures and develop practical engineering solutions. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including confidence speaking directly with clients. Ability to organize projects, provide clear technical direction, and collaborate with remote team members. Willingness and ability to travel locally for scheduled site visits throughout South Florida. Experience with structural engineering software and the ability to review AutoCAD-generated drawings. Who We're Looking For We are especially interested in someone who: Thinks beyond the minimum. You take the time to consider options rather than defaulting to the first or most conventional solution. Understands value engineering. You recognize that good engineering is not just about making something work, but finding a safe, practical, and cost-effective way to accomplish it. Is confident and resourceful. You can assess conditions, ask the right questions, make informed recommendations, and recognize when additional input is needed. Enjoys working with people. You are comfortable speaking with clients, explaining technical concepts, and helping them understand their options. Takes ownership. You care about the quality of your work, follow projects through, and contribute to solutions rather than simply completing assigned tasks. Values flexibility and growth. You appreciate the independence of remote work and want the opportunity to help shape a growing engineering operation. Schedule & Work Environment Part-time to start, with hours based on project volume and mutual availability. Approximately 90% work-from-home. Occasional scheduled site visits throughout South Florida. Flexible scheduling with considerable independence. Remote collaboration with our engineering, drafting, and administrative teams. Potential to increase hours and transition into a full-time position as our Florida market grows. Why Join RES? At RES, you will not be another engineer buried in a large corporate structure. We are a small, growing company where your ideas, judgment, and contributions matter. We offer the opportunity to work on a variety of structural engineering projects, interact directly with clients, and help develop our Florida operations. We understand that growth takes time, and we are looking for someone who is comfortable starting with a smaller workload while building toward something more substantial. If you are an experienced, creative, and client-focused structural engineer who values independence and takes pride in finding better solutions, we would love to hear from you. How to Apply Please submit your resume along with a brief description of your structural engineering background, current EI/EIT or PE credentials, Florida project experience, and availability for part-time work and local site visits.
