Baker's Construction Services brings over 40 years of expertise in a wide range of civil construction services, including excavation, drilling and blasting, runway extensions, racetrack construction, custom ponds, land development, building pad preparation, soil stabilization, and more. We serve clients across Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, North and South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia, and Alabama. Our team is dedicated to delivering high-quality, large-scale site development, mass earthmoving, highway and bridge construction, landfill services, and dam infrastructure improvements. About the Role Baker's Construction Services is seeking a Construction Field Engineer to support heavy civil and infrastructure projects. This role is central to field execution—bridging engineering, construction operations, and project controls. This position will support field crews, interpret design documents, manage project data, coordinate subcontractors, and help drive safe, efficient, high‑quality construction. Key Responsibilities Field Engineering & Project Planning Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and design documents to support field crews and ensure work is built to plan. Perform material takeoffs and quantity calculations from plans and contract documents. Evaluate materials and assist with constructability reviews. Work Planning & Coordination Assist in developing detailed work plans, task packages, and installation sequencing. Coordinate field surveying activities, including layout, elevations, control points, and as‑built documentation. Support daily coordination between field operations, subcontractors, and suppliers. Project Administration & Documentation Prepare and maintain project documentation including RFIs, submittals, daily reports, and logs. Assist with processing purchase orders, subcontracts, and procurement tracking. Support daily labor tracking and timesheet compilation. Safety Leadership Prepare Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in safety meetings, audits, and site inspections. Promote a strong safety culture and support field teams in implementing safe work practices. Subcontractor & Supplier Management Support subcontract administration, including tracking correspondence, change orders, pay applications, and performance. Assist with procurement activities, minor solicitations, and material purchasing as needed. Cost Tracking & Project Controls Monitor and code daily labor, equipment, materials, subcontractor invoices, and production quantities. Assist with cost reviews, schedule updates, and progress tracking. Support quantity tracking for payment applications and cost forecasting. Reporting & Communication Prepare data and reports for clients, vendors, and regulatory agencies. Communicate effectively with project managers, superintendents, field crews, and office staff to support smooth project execution. Qualifications Education Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering , Construction Management , or a related field preferred. Experience 2-5 years of combined field and office experience in heavy civil, infrastructure, or large‑scale construction projects. Technical Skills Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and identify inconsistencies. Experience with Procore , Oracle Primavera P6 , or similar project management tools is a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook). Familiarity with surveying principles and construction layout is beneficial. Soft Skills Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Highly organized, detail‑oriented, and able to work independently in the field. Proactive, solution‑oriented mindset with a commitment to quality and continuous improvement. This position supports Federal government projects and is considered a safety-sensitive position. Applicants must be willing and able to successfully pass background checks and drug testing during hire-in and throughout the job (as required by applicable laws, regulations, and contractual obligations).
