FIELD ENGINEER CO-OP
Fall/Winter Semester 2026 Project Center Hill Dam Location Lancaster, TN, US Position Type Co-op (Full-Time, On-Site) Duration August 2026 - December 2026 About the Project The Center Hill Dam project is a major civil infrastructure rehabilitation effort located on the Caney Fork River near Lancaster, Tennessee. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Center Hill Dam is a critical flood control and hydropower facility serving the region. This project involves significant structural repair and rehabilitation work, providing the Co-op with direct exposure to large-scale heavy civil construction in a dynamic, technically complex environment. Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Field Engineer Co-op to join our project team for the Fall/Winter 2026 semester. This is a hands-on, field-focused role designed to provide engineering students with real-world construction experience on a high-profile civil infrastructure project. The Co-op will work closely with experienced field engineers, superintendents, and project managers to support daily construction operations. Key Responsibilities
  • Assist field engineers with daily layout, surveying, and quality control activities
  • Support documentation of field conditions, RFIs, submittals, and daily reports
  • Perform quantity tracking and cost code verification for installed work
  • Assist in coordinating subcontractors and material deliveries on-site
  • Conduct safety observations and participate in toolbox talks and safety meetings
  • Maintain as-built drawing markups and record drawings
  • Support concrete placement operations including formwork inspection and pour cards
  • Assist with scheduling updates and lookahead planning coordination
  • Participate in owner and design team meetings as directed
  • Perform field measurements and verify work conforms to project plans and specifications Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering program (sophomore standing or above preferred)
  • Must be eligible for Co-op participation through your university for the Fall/Winter 2026 term
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and engineering principles
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar software is a plus
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and terrain conditions
  • Valid driver's license required
  • OSHA 10 certification preferred (or willingness to obtain upon hire) What You Will Gain

The Co-op must be prepared for outdoor work in all weather conditions, including working near water and within active construction zones. Standard PPE (hard hat, safety vest, steel-toed boots, safety glasses) is required at all times on-site. Some overtime may be required to support project schedule demands.
