Barnett Southern is a leader in heavy civil, energy, and marine construction projects across the Southeast and beyond. Our team is built on safety, skill, and integrity, and we are seeking a highly motivated Project Engineer to join our operations in Chesapeake, VA. This role will play a critical part in coordinating and managing engineering and technical development projects, ensuring success from planning through completion.
Essential Job Duties:
Coordinate and manage engineering and technical development projects. Oversee workflow, staffing, budget allocation, and scheduling for assigned projects. Collaborate with project staff to create strategic action plans and cost estimates for materials, time, labor, and resources. Facilitate and contribute to project plans and designs. Recommend and analyze materials, equipment, and construction practices. Assess the competence, resources, and financial status of vendors. Supervise project progress and compare actual costs against estimates. Partner with design teams to resolve challenges and adjust plans when necessary. Analyze equipment, processes, and systems to improve efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Prepare progress reports and cost updates for leadership. Ensure compliance with codes, regulations, and company standards. Collaborate with operations and engineering teams across divisions to share solutions and troubleshoot issues. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a related engineering discipline required. Minimum of 8 years of experience in project management, engineering, or systems design, with at least 3 years leading multidisciplinary teams. Excellent communication, budgeting, and organizational skills. Strong time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Skilled in problem-solving, leadership, and team supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Basic understanding of
ISO 9000
design requirements.
Physical & Work Environment:
Prolonged periods working at a desk and computer. Ability to lift up to 15 pounds as needed. Work environments include construction sites, office settings, and outdoor locations.
