This position works closely with the Project Manager and Superintendent in the planning, coordination, administration, and execution of commercial construction projects. The Senior Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager will perform many of the traditional responsibilities of a Project Engineer while taking increased ownership of subcontractor coordination, procurement, scheduling, cost management, change management, and project documentation. This position is intended for an experienced construction professional who is capable of independently managing assigned portions of a project and assuming increasing Assistant Project Manager-level responsibilities. The Senior Project Engineer will assist with preparing and administering bid packages, contracts, subcontracts, purchase orders, submittals, RFIs, change orders, project schedules, cost reports, and project closeout documentation. The position will also coordinate directly with Owners, Architects, Engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and field personnel as necessary to keep projects moving efficiently. An ideal candidate will have a four-year degree in a construction-related field or equivalent experience, along with at least 3 years of commercial general contractor Project Engineer or similar project management experience. Position must be able to work both in the office and onsite as project needs require. Senior PE / Assistant Project Manager will be responsible for the following tasks: Independently manage assigned portions of commercial construction projects under the direction of the Project Manager. Prepare and administer bid packages, subcontracts, purchase orders, scopes of work, and other project agreements. Assist with subcontractor and vendor procurement, including solicitation of bids, bid leveling, scope comparisons, and identification of scope gaps or overlaps. Procure and manage shop drawings, samples, product data, and other required submittals in accordance with project specifications. Review submittals and shop drawings for completeness, coordination, and general conformance with project requirements prior to submission. Maintain established procedures with the Owner, Architect, and Engineer for obtaining information, approvals, and processing RFIs, submittals, ASIs, and other project documentation. Prepare, issue, track, and follow up on RFIs throughout the duration of the project. Ensure current plans, specifications, addenda, ASIs, and other contract documents are issued to project subcontractors, vendors, and onsite staff. Ensure materials and equipment are released for fabrication in sufficient time to meet project schedule requirements. Coordinate with the Superintendent and subcontractors to expedite material and equipment deliveries. Communicate directly with subcontractors and suppliers regarding project schedules, procurement dates, required documentation, and outstanding project issues. Coordinate assigned subcontractors and vendors from award through project completion and closeout. Assist the Project Manager and Superintendent with development and maintenance of project schedules, procurement schedules, milestone dates, and short-term look-ahead schedules. Identify potential schedule impacts, procurement concerns, or coordination issues and communicate them to the project team. Participate in Owner, Architect, subcontractor, and internal project meetings. Lead meetings when assigned and prepare and distribute meeting agendas, minutes, action items, and follow-up documentation. Assist with preparation, pricing, review, negotiation, and tracking of Owner, Subcontractor, and Vendor change orders. Review subcontractor change order proposals for scope, labor, material, equipment, and supporting documentation. Assist with project cost reviews, budget tracking, commitments, forecasts, and cost reporting. Review subcontractor invoices and payment applications for accuracy, percent complete, stored materials, and consistency with project progress. Assist in identifying potential cost exposures, savings opportunities, and changes to project scope. Track RFIs, ASIs, submittals, addenda, change orders, procurement items, and project costs throughout the duration of the project. Review plans, specifications, and project documents to identify conflicts, constructability concerns, coordination issues, and potential changes. Work closely with the Superintendent to resolve field questions and coordinate subcontractor activities, material deliveries, inspections, and project requirements. Prepare reports, correspondence, logs, and other project documentation as requested by the Project Manager. Maintain accurate and complete project files and document control throughout the duration of the project. Assist with punch list management and project closeout. Obtain and submit all as-built drawings, guarantees, warranties, operating manuals, maintenance information, training documentation, and other required closeout materials. Provide guidance and assistance to Project Engineers or other junior project staff when assigned. Represent the company professionally in communications with Owners, Architects, Engineers, subcontractors, vendors, and other project stakeholders. Assume additional Assistant Project Manager-level responsibilities as experience, project needs, and demonstrated ability warrant.
