Role Worley is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership for the analysis and design of structures and foundations supporting chemical, power, and industrial projects. This role is responsible for leading structural engineering activities from concept through detailed design and construction support while ensuring compliance with applicable codes, standards, and customer requirements. The successful candidate will serve as the Structural Discipline Lead on assigned projects, providing technical direction, mentoring engineering teams, and coordinating with multidisciplinary stakeholders to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality project outcomes. Reporting functionally to the Project Engineer or Project Manager and administratively to the Civil/Structural Engineering Design Manager, this position plays a key role in the successful delivery of capital projects. The ideal candidate is a technically strong and collaborative engineering leader with excellent communication skills, sound engineering judgment, and a commitment to quality and safety. Responsibilities Lead the structural analysis and design of steel structures, pipe racks, equipment supports, foundations, and tall framed structures. Serve as Structural Discipline Lead on assigned projects, providing technical direction and oversight throughout project execution. Develop, review, and approve structural calculations, specifications, drawings, and other engineering deliverables. Ensure engineering deliverables comply with applicable building codes, industry standards, customer requirements, and Worley quality expectations. Coordinate structural engineering activities with other engineering disciplines to support integrated project delivery. Participate in project planning activities, including estimates, schedules, staffing plans, and execution strategies. Monitor progress and communicate engineering status, risks, and opportunities to project teams and stakeholders. Review and approve design deliverables to ensure technical accuracy, constructability, and code compliance. Support procurement and construction activities through technical evaluations, vendor reviews, and field support. Provide technical guidance during construction, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities. Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value improvement initiatives. Mentor and develop junior engineers and designers through coaching, technical oversight, and knowledge sharing. Support client engagements and represent the structural discipline during project meetings and technical reviews. Collaborate with project teams across multiple Worley offices and Global Integrated Delivery (GID) locations to support project execution. Conduct site visits and field walkdowns, as required, to support project development and construction activities. What You Will Bring Technical and Industry Experience Extensive experience in structural engineering design for industrial, chemical, power, or heavy industrial facilities. Advanced knowledge of structural engineering codes and standards including
IBC, ASCE
7, ACI, AISC, and PIP. Demonstrated experience leading structural engineering scope on multidisciplinary capital projects. Proficiency with structural analysis and design software including STAAD Pro, Mat3D and RISA 3D. Familiarity with Trimble Connect, Navisworks, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office applications. Strong understanding of structural design deliverables, construction practices, and project execution requirements. Proven ability to coordinate across disciplines and communicate effectively with clients, stakeholders, and project teams. Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience mentoring engineers and designers. Commitment to safety, quality, continuous improvement, and customer-focused project delivery. Education - Qualifications, Accreditation, Training Required Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited college or university. 12+ years of progressive civil/structural engineering experience supporting industrial projects. Strong experience leading structural engineering scope and multidisciplinary project teams. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Preferred Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for registration in the State of West Virginia. Advanced MS Office skills (Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, OneNote).
