Job Description
Civil Engineering Technician Bring your civil design experience to a team where your technical expertise helps shape communities across the Southeast. At Thomas & Hutton, you'll support a variety of land development and infrastructure projects, work alongside experienced engineers and designers, and contribute to high-quality construction plans and project deliverables. If you're an experienced Civil Engineering Technician with strong Civil 3D skills who enjoys solving design challenges and supporting collaborative project teams, this role is for you. What you'll do
- Prepare civil engineering construction plans, drawings, exhibits, and reports for land development, roadway, water, and sewer projects
- Develop detailed drawings from project information, design concepts, specifications, and engineering direction using CADD software
- Perform routine design calculations and prepare data to support engineering analyses and studies
- Prepare quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, project specifications, permit applications, and bid packages as needed
- Apply sound judgment to resolve design issues and support the development of practical project solutions
- Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D and related design tools to prepare construction plans and project deliverables
- Ensure drawings and exhibits comply with Thomas & Hutton CADD procedures, graphic standards, and design standards
- Coordinate the work of other technicians as part of a project team as needed
- Monitor assigned work to support project schedule and budget requirements
- Communicate project status and scheduling needs to Project Engineers and Project Managers
- Participate in project meetings with clients, agencies, contractors, and internal teams as needed
- Provide input on the development and maintenance of CADD standards, details, and procedures What you bring
- High school diploma or technical school training with coursework in computer-aided drafting, or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of CADD experience preparing civil engineering design drawings, exhibits, and reports
- Demonstrated experience working on land development projects using Autodesk Civil 3D
- Experience supporting projects involving land development, roadways, water, and sewer infrastructure
- Advanced knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, CADD, and related civil design tools
- Strong understanding of CADD procedures, graphic standards, and construction plan preparation
- Ability to perform routine design calculations and prepare quantity and cost estimates
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with engineers, designers, and other technicians
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to exercise sound judgment on design-related issues
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
