JOB PURPOSE
Under genera! direction, performs technical Civil and Traffic Engineering work of moderate difficulty, participating in sub-professional field work and related work in the office.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Participates in the preliminary design and field inspection of Civil Engineering projects such as street resurfacing, water main, sewer and sidewalk. Uses AutoCad for engineering plan preparation. Operates survey equipment and takes field notes. Prepares reports, inspects & measures quantities for payment for various civii and traffic engineering projects. Researches departmental records for information and historical data on particuiar locations. Researches documents of easements and contracts to support Senior Technicians recommendations. RESPONSIBILITIES
Prepares quantities for preliminary cost estimates for water, sewer, streets, alleys and other public improvements. Records data, prepares records and maintains requisite divisional files. Assists other departments by reviewing and processing back-up information to be incorporated into reports. Under supervision, works directly with contractors in construction-related discussions and problem resolution, prepares contracts quantities. Investigates and provides recommendations on citizen requests, and interdepartmental requests. Interacts with residents regarding engineering projects and issues. Performs other work-reiated duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
The duties performed by this position are representative of "medium work" with occasional exertion of approximateiy 50 pounds of force (removing & replacing manhote covers). The work is both indoor and outdoor. The indoor environment is an office-type area that is quiet except for office/communications equipment background noises. The outdoor environment is normal "on-the-street" noises and construction sites, inciuding noises from construction equipment and the related work activities.
