Senior Engineering Technician Salary $68,655.39 - $79,512.58 Annually Location 1751 College Ave. Elko, NV Job Type Full-Time Job Number 26-22 Department Engineering Opening Date 09/01/2026 Closing Date 9/15/2026 5:00 PM Pacific Description Benefits Description This is a semi-skilled engineering, drafting, surveying, and field inspection position under the supervision of the City Engineer and/or the Senior Staff Engineer.

SUPERVISION EXCERSIZED

Exercises no supervision over technical or administrative support staff. Essential Functions Work within this class involves the application of skills and knowledge in connection with civil engineering, computer aided design and drafting (CADD), Geographical Information Systems (GIS), land surveying, mapping, drafting, and inspection. Work assignments are delegated by the City Engineer and/or the Senior Staff Engineer, and are usually broad in scope, and involves the use of good judgment and accuracy in making decisions. Administer the City's GIS system, including the development, maintenance, and enhancement of geospatial databases. Perform the duties of a CADD draftsman of the Engineering Department; This position will be responsible to perform closure checks on all City subdivision maps and City parcel maps for map accuracy and completeness; Assists the City Engineer in preparing data for legal documents for rights-of-way and easements required for public improvements of the City; Assists in the preparation of specifications, computations, and time and material estimates; Assists on land and water rights surveys as required; Performs inspections of city improvements as required; Performs sedentary work in office environment as well as manual work associated with field duties, in sometimes, inclement weather conditions.

OTHER JOB RELATED DUTIES

Performs related work as required by the City Engineer.

Qualifications Knowledge of:

Working knowledge of the principals and practices of civil engineering, and land and construction surveying, and CADD. Knowledge of GIS applications and the use of various GIS software packages.

Skill to:

Skill in the use of computers and surveying and drafting instruments.

Ability to:

Ability to adapt approved engineering methods and standards to the design and construction of a variety of public works projects; Ability to perform technical work projects and assist in solving engineering problems; Ability to perform field inspections of City improvements (i.e., curb and gutter, street lighting, paving, etc.); Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the general public.

Minimum Qualifications:

One year experience in surveying, drafting, and inspection of a civil engineering nature; One year of GIS or CADD experience; Any equivalent combination of training and experience that allows the incumbent to perform the required duties.

Training:

High School diploma or the equivalent; Two years of college or technical training school, with specialization in subjects related to the field of civil engineering.

Licenses or Certificates:

Possession of, or the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver's license.

Supplemental Information Special Requirements:

Essential duties require the following physical skills and work: Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and lift 25 lbs.; exposure to outdoors, confining work space, and mechanical hazards; ability to travel to different sites and locations.
