CAD Drafter Job Description The Technical Support Specialist - Drafter serves as a key liaison between customers, sales, and the drafting team, supporting commercial exterior projects that involve architectural metal panels and roofing systems. This position is well suited for an early-career professional with construction experience and working knowledge of CAD who wants to grow into a more technical, customer-facing role. You will combine your understanding of construction drawings with strong communication skills to help deliver accurate, well-coordinated projects. Responsibilities Support customers, architects, and contractors by answering product-related questions and responding to project inquiries in a clear and timely manner. Interpret architectural and structural drawings to support effective project planning and execution. Collaborate closely with drafting and engineering teams to ensure a thorough and accurate understanding of project scope and requirements. Prepare project take-offs and review material requirements to support estimating and project coordination. Assist sales and customer service teams with technical input on ongoing and upcoming projects. Participate in customer calls and meetings to discuss technical details, clarify requirements, and propose practical solutions. Review drawings and project documentation for completeness, accuracy, and alignment with project specifications. Help reduce reliance on third-party services by supporting internal project execution and providing in-house technical expertise. Contribute to the smooth flow of information between field stakeholders and office teams to support successful project delivery. Maintain organized records of project communications, drawings, and material take-offs to support future reference and quality control. Essential Skills 1-3 years of experience in construction, building envelope, or a closely related field. Basic CAD knowledge, with AutoCAD preferred for drafting and drawing review. Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction, architectural, and structural drawings. Strong communication skills, with confidence in interacting with customers, architects, contractors, and internal teams. Detail-oriented approach with strong problem-solving ability in a technical project environment. Experience or familiarity with drafting practices and shop drawings. Understanding of metal fabrication, metal panel systems, and architectural or industrial construction contexts. Exposure to BIM workflows and tools, supporting coordination of architectural and structural information. Stable work history that demonstrates reliability and commitment to project and team success. Additional Skills & Qualifications Field experience in roles such as installer, foreman, or similar, with an interest in transitioning into an office-based technical support and drafting role. Exposure to commercial construction or architectural systems, particularly building envelope and roofing applications. Familiarity with architectural metal panels, roofing systems, and related building envelope products. Experience working with or around industrial or architectural metal fabrication environments. Comfort using Revit or other BIM-related tools for coordination and visualization of building systems. Ability to collaborate across multiple departments, including sales, customer service, drafting, and engineering. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple project inquiries simultaneously. Interest in developing deeper technical expertise in commercial exterior systems and building envelope solutions. Work Environment This role is fully on-site, Monday through Friday, in a professional office environment that supports close collaboration with drafting, engineering, sales, and customer service teams. You will work with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and other drafting and BIM-related software while engaging regularly with field stakeholders on commercial construction projects.
