https://greathouseatlanta.com/careers/ ROLE We are seeking a highly experienced and technically skilled Residential Architectural Designer / Drafter to join our team. This role is focused on translating design intent into buildable, well-documented plans, with a strong emphasis on structural understanding, precision drafting, and real-world constructability. If you thrive at the intersection of design and construction and enjoy collaborating closely with builders, architects, and engineers, we'd love to hear from you. Job Responsibilities Develop detailed, buildable floorplans and construction documents, including framing layouts, sections, elevations, schedules, and technical details aligned with project goals and constraints. Translate conceptual designs into accurate CAD drawings that reflect structural requirements, code compliance, and real-world construction methods. Lead drafting efforts using Chief Architect as the primary design platform. Evaluate and inform the buildability of projects, including considerations around structure, spans, loads, and material efficiency, consulting third party engineers as needed. Collaborate closely with project managers, architects, engineers, and contractors to ensure technical accuracy and seamless execution. Review and coordinate structural and engineering plans, identifying conflicts and proposing practical solutions. Conduct site visits to verify field conditions, perform accurate measurements for as built plan creation, and to assess structural changes to the home based on design. Maintain clear communication with internal teams and clients, ensuring alignment between design intent and construction reality. Contribute to continuous improvement of drafting standards, systems, and workflows. Job Qualifications 10+ years of experience in residential design and construction, with significant involvement in both drafting and building homes. Strong working knowledge of structural systems , including load paths, spans, framing methods, and construction sequencing. Advanced proficiency in CAD drafting required ; strong preference for candidates who are already highly proficient in Chief Architect . Candidates with deep AutoCAD experience will be considered, but must be willing and able to become a power user of Chief Architect quickly . Demonstrated ability to produce highly detailed, accurate, and buildable construction documents. Experience collaborating with architects and engineers; ability to interpret and integrate structural and MEP drawings. Degree in Architecture (preferred) or equivalent professional experience; licensed architect is a strong plus but not required . Deep understanding of residential construction practices, codes, and remodeling constraints. Strong problem-solving skills with a practical, construction-first mindset. Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a team-oriented environment.
