Position Summary:

We are looking for a Deck Designer with a strong background in design, architecture, engineering, or construction sales to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will work directly with homeowners to conceptualize and design custom decks and outdoor structures, blending creativity with technical accuracy. This position bridges design and sales — helping clients visualize their ideal space while ensuring it's practical, buildable, and code-compliant.

Key Responsibilities:

Meet with prospective clients to assess their needs, understand site conditions, and present design solutions. Develop detailed 2D and 3D deck designs using CAD or deck-specific software. Collaborate with the construction team to ensure designs are structurally sound and build ready. Prepare material takeoffs, renderings, and client proposals with cost estimates. Advise clients on decking materials, finishes, and layout options. Stay informed about local building codes, permit processes, and zoning laws. Support the sales team in closing deals by delivering compelling, accurate designs. Attend job sites for measurements, assessments, and client meetings as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

3+ years of experience in residential design, construction sales, or outdoor living projects. Strong understanding of deck construction, framing, structural design, and materials (wood, composites, railings, etc.). Proficiency in CAD-based software (e.g., AutoCAD, SketchUp, Chief Architect, DeckTools, or similar). Solid knowledge of building codes and construction practices. Excellent interpersonal and client-facing communication skills. Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and project timelines.

Preferred:

Degree or certification in Architecture, Engineering, Landscape Design, or Construction Management. Prior experience in a decking company or with outdoor living product sales. Familiarity with permitting and local building inspection processes. Construction estimating experience is a plus.
