Design Consultant Berkeley Building Co. At Berkeley Building Co., we believe building a home is about more than construction — it is about creating an experience, building relationships, and helping families bring their vision to life. We are seeking an organized, design-minded, relationship-driven professional to join our team as a Design Consultant. This role is responsible for guiding homebuyers through the design and personalization process from contract to finalized construction documents. The ideal candidate combines strong people skills, interior design awareness, organizational excellence, and the technical ability to confidently interpret architectural plans and construction documentation to deliver a client experience worthy of a "10." Reporting directly to the Design Manager, this position plays a critical role in ensuring homes are thoughtfully designed, selections are accurately documented, and construction teams receive complete, field-ready plans and job runners.

Base Salary:
Approximately $60,000/year
Bonus Opportunities:
Appointment and performance-based incentives
Expected Total Compensation:
$70,000-$85,000+ annually Position Summary The Design Consultant serves as the primary guide for clients throughout the design and selections phase of their homebuilding journey. This individual will coordinate plan revisions, facilitate interior and exterior selections, maintain communication between departments, and ensure all finalized documents are accurate, complete, and ready for construction execution. This role requires a high level of professionalism, organization, communication, emotional intelligence, and attention to detail while balancing creativity with technical accuracy, timelines, and operational execution. Key Responsibilities Client Experience & Consultation Guide homebuyers through Berkeley's design and selections process with professionalism, warmth, and confidence.
Conduct client meetings for:
Plan adjustments and personalization requests Interior and exterior selections Design review and final approvals Help clients make informed decisions that align with their lifestyle, budget, timeline, and overall vision. Create a welcoming and elevated customer experience that reflects Berkeley's relationship-driven brand and values. Maintain proactive and timely communication with clients throughout the design process. Ensure clients feel informed, cared for, and confident throughout the homebuilding journey. Design Coordination & Selections Coordinate and document all client selections including: Assist clients in making cohesive and thoughtful design selections that align with Berkeley standards and architectural intent. Collaborate with trade partners, vendors, and internal departments to verify product availability, lead times, and pricing. Ensure selections align with construction standards, community guidelines, and budget parameters. Plan Management & Documentation Read and interpret residential architectural plans, elevations, engineering details, and construction documents to accurately coordinate client selections and plan revisions. Coordinate and communicate requested plan changes with drafting, estimating, purchasing, and construction teams. Identify inconsistencies, missing information, or potential conflicts between plans, selections, and construction requirements prior to release to the field. Review plans, selection sheets, change requests, and documentation for accuracy and completeness.
Prepare and finalize field-ready:
Job runners Selection packages Construction documentation Client approval documents Ensure all finalized plans and documentation are delivered accurately and on schedule to construction and operations teams. Maintain organized digital and physical client files and documentation systems.
Team Collaboration Work closely with:
Design Manager Sales team Purchasing/Estimating Construction managers Drafting and architectural teams Help identify process improvements that elevate both operational efficiency and the customer experience. Support Berkeley's culture of teamwork, professionalism, accountability, and community-minded leadership.
Qualifications:
Preferred Experience 2-5+ years of experience in: Interior design New home construction Residential selections Design coordination Client consulting Construction administration Experience working directly with homebuyers and managing multiple projects simultaneously preferred. Strong ability to read and understand residential architectural plans, floorplans, elevations, and construction documents. Ability to visualize spaces and understand how design selections integrate with architectural and structural components of the home. Experience reviewing and coordinating construction-ready documentation preferred. Pay:
$60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
