JOB SUMMARY
Provides architectural services for Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) in-house projects by coordinating with the Department of Instruction and AACPS Business Divisions to establish design criteria in accordance with the approved Educational Specifications and design standards. Additional Work Days/Hours Based on the assignment, the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed: Emergencies Evenings/Nights Outside of normal business hours Weekends
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction administration for in-house design projects. Manages consultant architects and engineers on larger remodeling/renovation projects, working with the Departments of Instruction, Maintenance, Operations, and Purchasing to schedule, design and procure these projects. In coordination with Department of Instruction and AACPS business divisions, develops and maintains standard Educational Specifications. Evaluates Capital construction projects for adherence to same. Develops and maintains architectural, civil, mechanical, and electrical standards to promote uniform system design in coordination with other Facilities groups. Evaluates Capital construction projects for adherence to these standards. Evaluates new products and equipment for new schools or renovation projects. Participates in project life cycle, value engineering, and constructability reviews for projects. Communicates with other districts and outside agencies to keep current on code changes and trends in the school design and construction industry. Based on assignment, coordinates with schools and offices to ensure facilities meet Maryland Accessibility Code and Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA) standards. Develops solutions to provide appropriate access for disabled students and staff. Based on assignment, works with AACPS Capital construction office to specify furnishings for capital construction projects. Develops and maintains furniture standards. Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education Bachelor's Degree in Architecture or a related field of education from a regionally accredited college or university required. Experience Four (4) years progressively responsible architectural experience, preferably in school design required. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics Ability to review and produce construction plans and specifications. Ability to appraise the quality and rate of construction progress on projects. Understanding of agreements, conditions of the contract, Division 01, and their relationships to specifications. Understanding of how to research and source products with demonstrated advanced skills in specification and product standard development. Excellent organizational, analytical, and planning skills. Excellent oral, written and presentation communication skills. Comprehensive knowledge of Building, Fire, and Accessibility codes governing the construction of buildings/schools. Proficiency in AutoCAD application; REVIT and Archibus proficiency desirable. Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations. Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing, Microsoft Office Suite -Word, Excel, Outlook, and/or PowerPoint preferred). Licenses and Certifications Employee must retain active licenses, certifications, and enrollment as a condition of employment. Hold or be eligible for Architect License. If issued by another state; must obtain within 1 year, a Maryland Architect License issued by Maryland Board of Architects preferred. Hold or be eligible for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design - Accredited Professional (LEED-AP) Certification issued by US Green Building Council preferred; or Hold or be eligible for Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification issued by Project Management Institute (PMI) preferred; or Hold or be eligible for Certified Construction Specifier (CCS) Certification issued by Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) preferred; or Hold or be eligible for Certified Construction Contract Administrator (CCCA) Certification issued by Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) preferred. Hold or be eligible for Driver's License (DL) Class C Non-Commercial issued by Maryland or State of Legal Residence (MVA/DMV) required; and Proof of a good driving record required.
