Job Description
Sandhills Community College seeks a student-centered and industry-engaged full-time Architecture Instructor to provide high-quality instruction in Architecture and related disciplines within the Architectural Technology and related construction pathways. These two-year degree pathways prepare students with the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for employment as technicians supporting architecture, design, drafting, construction, and related industries. Coursework includes sustainable building and design, print reading, building codes, estimating, construction materials and methods, architectural drafting, computer-assisted drafting, environmental systems, structural principles, graphics, planning, and presentation. The instructor will support student success initiatives, maintain strong industry connections, and assist with program growth and continuous improvement efforts. Teach assigned curriculum courses in Architecture and related disciplines using effective instructional methods and technologies Develop and maintain course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments, assessments, and learning activities aligned with course and program outcomes Provide instruction in architectural specific courses using industry-standard software, including Revit, AutoCAD, and related architectural design technologies used in professional practice Provide instruction in face-to-face, hybrid, online, and/or laboratory environments as assigned Maintain accurate and timely student records, attendance, grades, and required reports in accordance with college policies and procedures Support student success through academic advising, mentoring, and timely communication with students Maintain regular office hours and provide appropriate academic support to students Utilize the College's learning management system and institutional technologies effectively Participate in program assessment, curriculum review, accreditation, and continuous improvement activities Participate in and support departmental Excellence and Opportunity initiatives, including outreach, recruitment, retention, and student engagement efforts Engage with industry and partner companies to support workforce alignment, student opportunities, advisory board activities, and program development Collaborate with faculty, staff, administration, and advisory board members to support program quality and workforce alignment Assist with student recruitment, retention, outreach, and engagement activities Maintain current knowledge of architecture industry standards, technologies, software, and practices Support safe and effective use of instructional labs, studios, equipment, and software Participate in college committees, meetings, professional development activities, and institutional events Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that promotes student engagement and success Perform other duties as assigned by the Department Chair, Department Head, or Dean Required education and experience: Associate degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Drafting Technology, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution Professional experience in architecture, architectural drafting, design, construction documentation, or related areas Proficiency with current architecture-related software and technologies, such as AutoCAD, Revit, and related design platforms Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, and industry partners Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's degree in Architecture or a closely related field Prior teaching or training experience in higher education, secondary education, industry, or workforce development Experience with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and 3D modeling technologies Experience with architectural visualization, rendering, sustainable design, construction materials and methods or related specialties Familiarity with community college teaching and student support practices Willingness to accept program coordinator responsibilities through an additional stipend assignment, if assigned
