Job Description

Job Title:
Civil Design Engineer Job Description The Civil Design Engineer will lead and support land development and site design projects with a strong focus on stormwater management, grading, and regulatory compliance. This role involves preparing detailed site, zoning, and subdivision plans using AutoCAD Civil 3D, while collaborating closely with professional engineers in a multidisciplinary environment. The position offers opportunities for upward mobility, exposure to a variety of project types, and participation in a collaborative, growth-oriented culture. Responsibilities Develop and refine civil site designs for commercial and residential projects, including grading, drainage, and layout. Prepare detailed site plans, zoning plans, and subdivision plans in accordance with applicable regulations and standards. Design and analyze stormwater management systems, including green infrastructure solutions, to ensure effective drainage and regulatory compliance. Create and review stormwater and drainage calculations, reports, and supporting documentation. Design septic systems and related site utilities as required for various land development projects. Incorporate New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) regulations into project designs and documentation, maintaining up-to-date knowledge of current requirements. Address soil erosion and sediment control requirements in design documents and coordinate with appropriate agencies for approvals. Prepare documentation and design packages to obtain subdivision approvals and other necessary permits. Use AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce accurate drawings, models, and design details for land development and infrastructure projects. Collaborate directly with professional engineers and other disciplines to coordinate design elements and resolve technical issues. Utilize Microsoft Office applications to prepare reports, calculations, correspondence, and presentation materials. Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high quality standards. Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by sharing technical knowledge and supporting team development. Essential Skills Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related field. Approximately 4+ years of engineering design experience, preferably with an emphasis on stormwater management. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D for civil design, grading, and land development projects. Experience preparing site plans, stormwater management plans, zoning plans, and subdivision plans. Strong understanding of stormwater design principles, drainage systems, and related calculations. Familiarity with NJDEP regulations and ability to apply them to design and permitting. Experience with grading design for both commercial and residential projects. Knowledge of soil erosion and sediment control design requirements. Ability to design or support the design of septic systems and related site infrastructure. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and related tools. Strong attention to detail and ability to produce accurate, code-compliant design documents. Effective communication and collaboration skills in a multidisciplinary project environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working on land development projects involving stormwater, drainage, and green infrastructure. Familiarity with subdivision approval processes and coordination with reviewing agencies. Exposure to or experience in a multidisciplinary engineering or consulting firm. Fundamentals of Engineering (EIT) certification or progress toward professional licensure is beneficial. Ability to work directly with professional engineers and learn from senior technical staff. Interest in career growth and upward mobility within a partner-led organization. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage priorities across multiple active projects. Work Environment The role is based in an office environment with a flexible 8-hour work schedule, typically across five days in the office each week. The firm operates as a multi-disciplinary practice with several partners, providing opportunities to work directly with professional engineers on a diverse range of projects. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of East Windsor, NJ. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $36.05 - $40.87/hr.
