Job Description

Licensed Architect Nelson & Associates is seeking a Licensed Architect to join our team in a full-time, in-person position. Nelson & Associates is an established architectural and engineering firm serving the Utica/Central New York region, with a long history of municipal, public-sector, commercial, and institutional project work. As the company continues to grow, we are looking to expand our services to include more residential architectural design , including additions, renovations, remodels, new construction, and related residential projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an architect who is interested in helping develop and grow a residential services division while also contributing to the firm's existing architectural and engineering work. Position Overview The Licensed Architect will be responsible for leading and supporting architectural design projects from initial client consultation through design development, construction documents, permitting, and project coordination. The ideal candidate is organized, client-focused, technically strong, and comfortable working both independently and collaboratively with engineers, designers, drafters, clients, contractors, and municipal agencies. This position will also include mentoring newer and developing architectural staff, providing technical guidance, supporting professional growth, and helping guide team members who are working toward architectural licensure.
Responsibilities Responsibilities may include:
Meeting with clients to discuss project goals, scope, budget, and design needs Preparing architectural drawings, designs, specifications, and construction documents Developing residential design services and helping grow this area of the business Leading and supporting residential projects, including additions, renovations, remodels, and new construction Coordinating with engineers, drafters, consultants, contractors, and municipal officials Reviewing applicable building codes, zoning requirements, and permitting requirements Assisting with proposals, project planning, and client communication Managing multiple projects and deadlines Providing design guidance and quality control for architectural drawings and deliverables Mentoring developing architectural staff and assisting team members pursuing licensure Supporting commercial, municipal, institutional, and public-sector projects as needed Utilizing Revit for architectural design, modeling, coordination, and construction documentation Qualifications The ideal candidate will have: Active architecture license, preferably in New York State Experience with residential design, renovations, additions, and/or new construction Proficiency with Revit is required Strong understanding of building codes, construction methods, and permitting processes Ability to prepare and review construction documents Strong communication and client service skills Ability to manage projects from concept through completion Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work Ability to provide guidance, mentorship, and technical support to developing staff Ability to work in person as part of a collaborative team Experience with municipal, public-sector, commercial, or institutional projects is a plus. Experience with AutoCAD or other design software is also beneficial.
