Job Description

Job Title:
Structural Design Engineer Job Description This role focuses on delivering high-quality structural design solutions for heavy industrial facilities while supporting both detailed engineering work and broader project leadership. You will perform structural calculations, develop design documents, and collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and to a high technical standard. The position offers exposure to a diverse mix of industrial projects and clear opportunities to grow into design leadership and project management responsibilities. Responsibilities Perform detailed structural engineering calculations and prepare accurate design data and information for heavy industrial facilities. Develop structural designs and documentation for structural steel and related systems using tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM platforms. Serve as Project Lead on select single-discipline projects by estimating work hours, developing scope of work, and making staffing recommendations. Review and check structural drawings and design deliverables to ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to applicable codes and standards. Assist with field work by visiting sites, checking installations, and supporting problem-solving activities during construction or retrofit projects. Interact and collaborate with internal departments and project teams to obtain required project information and align on design requirements. Coordinate with external suppliers and partners to gather technical data, clarify design needs, and support procurement and implementation activities. Manage project scope by identifying and addressing scope changes, updating work plans, and adjusting deliverables as necessary. Monitor project progress against budget and schedule, taking action to keep work on track and ensure timely completion. Apply creative and practical thinking to develop effective structural solutions that meet client needs and project constraints. Prepare and present project information to internal stakeholders and external client audiences in a clear and professional manner. Maintain organized project documentation and support efficient multitasking across multiple concurrent projects. Essential Skills Bachelor of Science degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. 5-10+ years of experience in structural design for heavy industrial facilities. Strong background in structural engineering and structural design, including structural steel. Proficiency with AutoCAD for structural design and drafting. Ability to model and a willingness to learn and use Revit and BIM integration tools. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, with strong attention to detail. Strong multitasking and organizational skills to support project efficiency. Effective interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with internal teams and external partners. Additional Skills & Qualifications Desire to obtain a Structural Engineer license. Desire to obtain Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification. Experience working on a variety of industrial projects. Interest in progressing into project management or design leadership roles. Ability to present technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cleveland, OH. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $55.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
