Qualifications:
High school Diploma and five or more years of recent industry experience leading to a broad base of knowledge and skills in commercial and/or residential construction with demonstrated ability on residential projects. The ability and willingness to successfully complete a career and technical education teacher licensure and certification program within the first 4 years of teaching. Experience dealing with adolescents with special needs or at-risk of dropping out of school. Demonstrates knowledge of planning, delivering, and evaluating instruction based upon knowledge of subject matter, in accordance with VT Agency of Education standards. Proven commitment to the success of all students. Willingness to remain current in industry standards and emerging technologies, and software to ensure updated curriculum design. Ability to work as an effective team player. Possess excellent communication and collaboration skills
Responsibilities & Performance Expectations:
Prepare materials and set up the shop or work site for class activities. Work with school administration to purchase/bid materials and subcontract work needed for the construction project Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, participate in building and design projects, question, and investigate. Plan for, manage and oversee all the materials in the classroom and on the work site. Unload trucks delivering materials for the construction site. Plan, direct and oversee the activities of the assigned classroom assistant; monitor work-in-progress. Drives truck to and from work site and/or to and from vendors to pick up or deliver materials and tools needed for the project. Implements a comprehensive, standards -based curriculum that incorporates industry skill standards and enables students to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that will prepare them to succeed in the chosen trade or industry. Specifically, the educator: Creates instructional activities that provide students with the knowledge and skills to successfully complete the industry-recognized third-party assessments within the particular trade or industry. Develops learning opportunities that integrate industry-recognized credentials and incorporate current components of all aspects of industry. Integrates the teaching of applied academic skills throughout all instructional activities. Consults with industry advisory committees, colleagues, community, and parents to maximize curricular and instructional resources, and develops experiential/work-based learning opportunities for students. Plans, organizes, and manages laboratories/technical facilities for instruction so that activities are carried out in accordance with state and national safety guidelines and in compliance with all local, state and federal regulatory codes governing the trade or industry.
Working Conditions:
Hybrid classroom and lab setting. Most of the work is preformed indoors in an environmentally controlled setting. There is occasional exposure to environmental heat and cold extremes as well as rain. Exposure to dust, dirt, and some hazardous materials Noise may exceed normal classroom settings
Physical Requirements:
Job frequently requires lifting and carrying material weighing up to 50 pounds, bending stretching, kneeling, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and repetitive motions. Professional Licenses. Holds, or is able to obtain, a valid VT Professional Educator license with an endorsement and instructional level that sufficiently and lawfully permits the employee to perform such duties as may be assigned under this job description. It is the responsibility of the educator to obtain and maintain such licensure, including seeking and attending professional development activities, and keeping accurate records of such. Failure to do so, may lead to termination of employment. This requirement is aligned with Article IX Certification of Teacher as found within our collective bargaining agreement (CBA) Attendance. Reliable attendance at work and punctuality is required for the position. The Employee must also be able to participate in required meetings and/or trainings that are held outside of the normal work day or work hours. Employee must be willing and able to work evenings and/or weekends as needed to effectively meet the expectations of the job.
