Job Title:
Electronic Technician Job Description This role focuses on building, testing, and troubleshooting electronic cable assemblies and wire harnesses in a clean manufacturing environment. You will prepare and terminate wires, assemble and solder connectors, operate and calibrate specialized test and processing equipment, and ensure all work meets technical specifications and quality standards. Success in this position requires strong hands-on skills, the ability to read blueprints and Bills of Materials, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail. Responsibilities Set up and calibrate wire processing equipment such as Schleuniger, Komax, or similar machines, including blade setup and CFM validation. Operate and utilize electronic test equipment including Cirris, CableScan, Hi-Pot testers, pull testers, micro-ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, multimeters, ohmmeters, and digital multimeters (DMMs). Build or design test fixtures for continuity and Hi-Pot testing to support production and verification activities. Diagnose electrical faults on cable assemblies and harnesses, including shorts, opens, continuity issues, and other electronic defects. Create, update, and maintain work instructions, travelers, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for production use. Manage redlines, engineering change orders (ECOs), and Bill of Materials (BOM) updates to keep documentation accurate and current. Estimate labor times for assemblies to support quoting, planning, and job costing activities. Perform root cause analysis on product and process issues and implement corrective and preventive actions in collaboration with engineering, production, and quality teams. Cut, strip, and crimp wires using manual and automated tools while maintaining accuracy, repeatability, and consistency. Assemble connectors by inserting wires into circular connectors and other connector types in accordance with detailed assembly instructions. Perform soldering operations on wires, terminals, and connectors in accordance with IPC standards, with training provided if needed. Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, wire schematics, and Bills of Materials to ensure correct and complete assembly. Inspect completed assemblies and harnesses for accuracy, workmanship, and compliance with company and industry standards. Support production by maintaining a clean, organized workstation and following all safety and ESD procedures. Use hand tools and power tools for mechanical and electronic assembly, packaging, and line support as required. Assist with debugging, repair, and calibration of electronic assemblies and test setups as needed. Essential Skills 3+ years of electronics experience in assembly and testing. Proficiency using crimpers, wire strippers, cutters, soldering irons, and inspection tools. Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, wire schematics, and Bills of Materials with high accuracy. Hands-on experience wiring, crimping, and soldering electronic assemblies and connectors. Ability to set up, calibrate, and utilize electronic testing equipment including Hi-Pot testers, oscilloscopes, multimeters, ohmmeters, and related instruments. Experience with wire harness assembly and cable harness assembly. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills for electronic assemblies, including diagnosis of continuity issues, shorts, opens, and other faults. Experience with electronics testing, including continuity and Hi-Pot testing. Comfort working with small components and performing repetitive, hands-on tasks that require manual dexterity. Consistent attention to detail and the ability to produce precise, high-quality work. Experience with mechanical assembly using hand tools and power tools. Ability to work with packaging and production line processes related to electronic assemblies. Familiarity with basic debugging, repair, and calibration of electronic equipment. Ability to work within ITAR-related requirements and provide appropriate documentation as needed. Additional Skills & Qualifications IPC certification such as J-STD-001 or
IPC/WHMA-A-620.
Experience with Mil-Spec connectors, including MIL-DTL, D-Sub, and circular connectors. Experience assembling cable harnesses for military, aerospace, or industrial applications. Familiarity with ESD-safe work environments and practices. Experience operating Schleuniger, Komax, or similar automated wire processing equipment. Creating and maintaining work instructions, travelers, and SOPs. Experience managing redlines, engineering change orders (ECOs), and BOM updates. Ability to estimate labor times to support quoting and job costing. Work Environment This position is based in a clean manufacturing environment focused on electronic assemblies and wire harness production. The standard shift runs from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with overtime available as needed to meet production demands. You work at designated stations equipped with manual and automated wire processing tools, including crimpers, strippers, cutters, soldering equipment, and specialized machines such as Schleuniger or Komax systems. You regularly use electronic test equipment including Cirris, CableScan, Hi-Pot testers, pull testers, micro-ohmmeters, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and digital multimeters. The environment follows ESD-safe practices, organized workstations, and documented procedures to ensure consistent quality and safety. Dress and attire align with a typical electronics manufacturing setting, where appropriate work clothing and any required protective or ESD-related gear support both safety and product integrity Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Irvine, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $33.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
